2007 Canada Walk of Fame Tuesday, June 12, 2007—Canada celebrated its best-of-the-best this past weekend with the 2007 Canada’s Walk of Fame induction, an annual event that pays homage to the nation’s top celebrities. This year’s event, held Saturday at Toronto’s The Hummingbird Centre and hosted by comedian Eugene Levy, drew in a large crowd of fans and celebrities, and featured a number of notable big names getting inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame. The lucky eight stars selected include actresses Catherine O Hara and Jill Hennessy, CTV News anchor Lloyd Robertson, Toronto Maple Leafs hockey goalie Johnny Bower, film executive producer and director Ivan Reitman, rock band Nickelback (pictured), actor Gordon Pinsent, and paraplegic athlete and activist Rick Hansen, considered a Canadian “hero.” According to Peter Soumalias, the president and founder of Canada’s Walk of Fame, all eight inductees have perseverance in common; they all persevered, “against all odds,” as reported by CanWest News Service. Celebrities in Canada must have been working in their chosen vocation (be it acting, music, sports, etc.) for at least a solid decade in order to be considered as a Walk of Fame inductee, and Nickelback, who’s been around now for 10 years, barely squeaked in. Past inductees of the Canada’s Walk of Fame, which has been around since 1998, include Mike Myers, Jim Carrey, Pamela Anderson, Kiefer Sutherland, Shania Twain, Alanis Morissette, and Paul Anka. —CL
