Wednesday, November 1, 2006 - Courtney Love has been booked again – but this time, it’s not what you think. Usher
Love has recently penned her tell-all tales of an illustrious life as anything but the girl next-door. Her long-anticipated memoirs, Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love, hit bookstores on Halloween. It includes personal letters, poetry, diary entries, and never-before-seen photographs – from the gritty to the glamorous.
As readers might expect, Dirty Blonde chronicles Love’s life with the late Kurt Cobain, her custody fight for their daughter, Frances Bean; and her ongoing battle with drugs. What readers might not expect are recounts of a young Love’s rejection from The New Mickey Mouse Club (she auditioned under the alias “Coco Rodriguez”); as well as e-mail correspondence with Lindsay Lohan on dealing with the relentless pursuit of the paparazzi.
Love’s memoirs include characteristically candid quotes, in which she describes herself as a “public figure unhappy with my share of the American dream. There can only be one reason for this. I am on drugs, and have the morals and mentality of a cartoon character. What did I want after all??”
In another diary entry dated April 17, 1994, Love writes: “Exactly one month ago today was the last time I made love with my husband. I cooked him dinner. We spent four hours in the playroom with Frances. We saw Schindler's List. It made us frightened for life and we saw the value of life. Our convictions we defined until 4 a.m. and we fell asleep in each other's arms and woke up that way in the morning.”
With a foreword written by Carrie Fisher, the book also features a “backside” on the cover – a photo of a bare-bottomed Love, laying face-down.
Love plans to promote Dirty Blonde through a book tour of Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and
New York . She is also currently interviewed in and featured on the cover of the November issue of the UK’s POP magazine.
