Beyonce Sued for Stealing Song Wednesday, April 18, 2007 - A lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Manhattan Federal Court alleges that the song "Still in Love (Kissing You)" from Beyonce’s B'Day - Deluxe Edition album was used without permission. Originally titled "I'm Kissing You", the song was co-written by 90s one-hit-wonder, Des'ree, and featured in Baz Luhrmann's 1996 film Romeo and Juliet, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Daines. The lawsuit, filed by Des’ree and her representatives, claims that Beyonce and her record company people had initially attempted to negotiate terms for using the song with permission. However, when their proposal to change the title of the song and make a music video for it were rebuffed, Beyonce’s record company went ahead and recorded the song anyway, according to the lawsuit. Des'ree is seeking damages starting at $150,000 and to halt distribution of the song, video and album. British-born singer, Des’ree is best known for her 1994 hit, “You Gotta Be”, which was included on the tribute album for Princess Diana as well as on the soundtrack to The Next Karate Kid, starring Hilary Swank. -GM
