More Drama for Grey’s Tuesday, January 30, 2007—Just in case there wasn’t enough going on with likely the most-talked-about show on TV this season, there is yet more buzz surrounding—yes, you guessed it—the cast of Grey’s Anatomy. Not only did the hit medical drama’s stellar cast (including Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, and Sandra Oh) score the coveted SAG (Screen Actors Guild) award for best dramatic ensemble on Sunday night, just two weeks after they scored a Golden Globe for best dramatic series, but Grey’s actress Chandra Wilson also came away with the SAG prize for best dramatic actress, beating out Kyra Segdwick, Edie Falco, and Patricia Arquette. Meanwhile, Grey’s star Isaiah Washington (a.k.a. Dr. Preston Burke) was missing in action for the big celebratory night, instead being stuck in rehab as part of his plan to deal with the public relations crisis that evolved after he dropped the homosexual F-bomb on co-star T R Knight—who, despite rumors to the contrary, is not leaving the cast of Grey’s.
The now-confirmed-as-false rumor claimed that Knight, who plays Dr. George O’Malley on the show, was so upset from the ordeal with Washington and how network ABC handled it that he was quitting. However, a number of news sources say that now Washington’s future on Grey’s is up in the air. —CL
