Oprah Helps with Murder Apology Thursday, February 1, 2007—Famous talk-show hostess Oprah Winfrey recently helped a young man apologize to the family of the 18-year-old he shot and killed 10 years ago. Nathan Abraham, now 21, was found guilty for killing Ronnie Greene Jr. with a rifle back in 1997, when Abraham was only 11. After Abraham was released from custody on January 18, he traveled from his home in Bay City to Chicago, according to the Associated Press (AP), first meeting with Winfrey in her private office. Winfrey then helped him to apologize to the victim’s family for a taped segment that was supposed to air on Winfrey’s talk show on Wednesday, January 31. But AP reports the taping was later cancelled at the request of Abraham’s lawyer, Daniel Bagdade, who allegedly “revoked Abraham’s consent to appear on Winfrey’s show,” says AP. Bagdade, who witnessed the interaction that ended up occurring in Winfrey’s office, says she “mediated the apology,” which was “very riveting” (AP).
The Oakland County jury convicted Abraham of second-degree murder two years after the murder, and he has just finished his eight-year-long juvenile sentence. ----------------- Winfrey, 53, has been hosting The Oprah Winfrey Show, one of the most popular and successful talk shows around, for more than 20 years. Other favorite talk-show hosts and hostesses include Jay Leno, Conan O Brien, Ellen DeGeneres, Dr Phil, Tyra Banks, David Letterman, and Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. —CL
