Thursday, June 21, 2007—Ever since Bob Barker, who recently retired from his 35-year-long “stint” hosting The Price is Right, mentioned right after last week’s Daytime Emmy Awards (upon receipt of his 18th and 19th Emmys) that he had “no doubt” Rosie O Donnell would make a great new host for the popular game show, it seems that everyone—Rosie included—thinks the former The View co-hostess is a shoe-in. However, Barker clarified to the Associated Press (AP) recently that “he never meant to endorse any potential host and has no role in choosing his replacement.” Barker says he just meant Rosie could do the show and do it well, but says, “I think there are several candidates who could do the show.” Rosie is reportedly up against Todd Newton (E! network), Mark Steines (Entertainment Tonight), George Hamilton, and John O’Hurley, but says on her blog that she’ll soon be meeting with reps from The Price is Right and totally wants the job. “I LOVE THE PRICE IS RIGHT!” she wrote. Wow, capital letters—is Rosie desperate for work? If that’s the case, perhaps she should have thought things through a bit more before quitting her co-hosting duties on The View early. So her and Elisabeth Hasselback had some minor tiffs (all right, so they were major, heated arguments) on the show; who doesn’t get involved in controversial debates (and juvenile name-calling—yes, that was a not-so-subtle jab at Donald Trump) with Rosie these days?
The Price is Right is on summer hiatus until the right replacement host, whether it’s Rosie or not, is found for the new fall season. —CL
