Friday, June 29, 2007—The big moment we’ve all (okay, well, some of us) been waiting for is finally here—The Spice Girls are really, truly, honest-to-God getting back together for not only a kick-ass, 11-show world tour, but also to release a greatest-hits album. The announcement came just yesterday in London, U.K., where all five former Spicy ladies—Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice”), Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”), Melanie Brown or Mel B (“Scary Spice”), Melanie Chisholm or Mel C (“Sporty Spice”), and Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice”)—appeared together on stage (London’s 02 Arena) for the first time in almost 10 years, as PEOPLE reports.
The long-awaited reunion tour will kick off on December 7 this year in Los Angeles and last for two months, taking the Girls from Las Vegas, New York, and London to Madrid, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney, and Buenos Aires, among other major world cities. Although this is certainly spectacular news for fans of the all-girls’ band that brought us such hits as “Wannabe,” “Say You’ll Be There,” “2 Become 1,” “Spice Up Your Life,” and “Too Much,” it ain’t gonna last—Beckham says after the tour and album are done, “that will probably be it. Our priority is our families.” The Girls certainly are all growns-up... Beckham has three kiddies of her own, Brown and Halliwell gave birth to baby girls this spring, and preggy Bunton is due in August. The Girls have been busy in other areas, too—particularly Brown, who’s been busy proving that her ex, Eddie Murphy, is baby Angel’s father; and Beckham, who’s about to move into her new $22-million Beverly Hills home with soccer star hubby David Beckham. Oh – and there’s that NBC reality show “special” coming up (this coming just weeks after being canned from her fashion label Rock & Republic for being “horrible” to work with). The focus of the short-lived Spice reunion will be, then, on “celebrating the past” and giving their fans a “proper farewell,” the Girls say. Of course, it has NOTHING to do with the money. The reported $10 mill each Girl will pocket surely pales in comparison with the joy of properly saying farewell.... again. Let's hear it for Girl Power! —CL
