Alyson Hannigan If there is one thing Alyson Hannigan is known for, it’s her famous quote, “And one time at band camp...” from the movie American Pie. This saying has gone on to become a part of pop culture and is often imitated.. While she is most known for this role, the young Hannigan has actually been a part of the acting world since shortly after her birth.Hannigan was born on March 24, 1974, in Washington, D.C., as the daughter of Albert Hannigan, a truck driver, and Emilie Posner, a real estate agent. As an infant, Hannigan appeared in an industrial film, Active Parenting. Shortly after this, her parents divorced. In 1978 Hannigan started her commercial acting career, and starred in a commercial for Duncan Hines cookie mix. Moving in 1985, she split her time between her mother’s Los Angeles home and her father’s home in Santa Barbara, and began attending auditions.Hannigan’s first major role came in the film My Stepmother Is an Alien. She starred in this film with Dan Aykroyd, Kim Basinger, Jon Lovitz, and Seth Green (whom she would run into again later in her career). Hannigan followed this with a starring role in the short-lived television series, Free Spirit. She also had guest roles on the television series Roseanne, Touched By an Angel, and Picket Fences with established actors such as Roseanne, John Goodman, Roma Downey, Della Reese, Tom Skerritt, and Kathy Baker. During this time Hannigan also starred in the made-for-television movies Switched at Birth with Bonnie Bedelia and Brian Kerwin, and For My Daughter’s Honor starring Gary Cole and Mary Kay Place.Hannigan’s big break came with the role of Michelle Flaherty in the movie American Pie, a film about the pact between four boys that has them losing their virginity by the night of their prom. Appearing in the movie alongside Jason Biggs, Chris Klein, Thomas Ian Nicholas, and Shannon Elizabeth, Hannigan played the somewhat nerdy band camp girl. This movie was so successful it spawned two sequels, both with appearances by Hannigan – American Pie II and American Wedding. Jason Biggs also starred again with Hannigan in another teenage movie titled Boys and Girls. After her movie success, Hannigan returned to television, starring as Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with Sarah Michelle Gellar and her previous co-star Seth Green. She reprised her role of Willow again on Buffy’s spin-off series, Angel, appearing with David Boreanz and Alexis Denisof. Following the end of these series, Hannigan had guest star spots on shows such as That ‘70s Show, King of the Hill, and Veronica Mars. These landed her yet another weekly television series, How I Met Your Mother starring Neil Patrick Harris.Hannigan has dated actor Steven Sutphen and drummer Ginger Fish from Marilyn Manson’s band, but she settled down in 2003 and married Alexis Denisof, whom she met on the set of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Coverage of their wedding was featured in the magazine InStyle. |
