Adam Carolla Biography

A lot of things can be said about comedian, writer, and celebrity personality Adam Carolla, but none of those things involve him being discreet. Often compared to shock jock Howard Stern, Carolla has his own way of simultaneously offending and delighting his audiences.

Adam Carolla was born May 27, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Carolla is of Italian and Hungarian extraction on his father and mother’s side respectively. As often stated on his radio show, the relationship with his parents was strained, claiming they were neglectful and disinterested. Carolla also publicly decried his family for being cheap, claiming to receive coins rather than gifts on his birthday. His parents eventually divorced.

Carolla graduated from North Hollywood High School where he captained the football team and earned the not surprising title of class clown. Never interested in his academics, Carolla scraped by with a 1.75 GPA, and although a graduate, never received his diploma due to $19.95 in outstanding fines to the school library.

He briefly tried community college, but his grades continued to be poor. He eventually dropped out and began a series of odd jobs which included carpet cleaner, carpenter, and boxing instructor. Always the colorful personality, Carolla dated a British stripper at this time as well as becoming a self-taught unicyclist.

Always harboring the desire to write comedy, Carolla studied with The Groundlings and even tried his hand at standup. With little headway in that department, Carolla pursued his work as a boxing instructor. He trained and befriended Jimmy Kimmel, who was already in radio at the time. Kimmel helped secure a job for Carolla on air.

Receiving his big break in 1995, he was invited to help co-host Loveline with Dr Drew Pinsky, which he did successfully until 2005. Carolla’s vitriolic rants against everyday society became a staple of the show’s program. He earned his solo radio show in early 2006. The Adam Carolla Show has earned steadily increasing ratings since its inception.

Carolla is also well known for his four year stint (1999 to 2003) with The Man Show opposite Kimmel. After leaving this program, Carolla was integral in the creation of the crude puppet-laden series Crank Yankers. He also had a short lived show in 2005, Too Late with Adam Carolla.

Carolla is equally well-known for various ongoing voice projects such as Family Guy (with Alex Borstein, Seth Green, and Mila Kunis) and Drawn Together.

In 2007, Carolla pulled an unconventional move by seriously acting in a partly autobiographical film, The Hammer.

When Carolla is not working in radio, television, or film, he is an avid car collector and enthusiast.

Carolla married Lynette Paradise on September 28, 2002. They welcomed twins, a son and a daughter, on June 7, 2006.
