Aisha Tyler Bio

Aisha Tyler Biography

American actress Aisha Tyler first gained notoriety for her hosting gigs with Talk Soup and The Fifth Wheel. Since, she has earned several recurring roles on various television shows such as Friends, 24, and Ghost Whisperer.

Aisha N Tyler was born September 18, 1970 in San Francisco, California. Her parents were Robin Gregory and Jim Tyler, a teacher and photographer respectively. Her parents split up, however, when Tyler was only ten years old, and she was subsequently raised by her father.

Knowing she had an interest and knack for comedy from an early age, Tyler would often skip her high school classes in order to attend various improv lessons. Finding a school that more suited her interests, Tyler began attending the School of the Arts High School, where she studied various aspects of theater. She obtained her secondary education from Dartmouth College and graduated with a major in government and a minor in environmental policy.

Tyler’s first job was in a California advertising firm, but she soon realized the job held little interest for her. She quit and began pursuing her standup comedy career in earnest. By 1996, she had decided to relocate to Los Angeles.

And the move proved worthwhile. Her onscreen debut came in 1996 with a one-episode appearance on Nash Bridges opposite Don Johnson. It wouldn’t be until 2001, however, that her career really took off.

In that year, she earned two recurring gigs. The first was as host of the series Talk Soup, and the second was with the dating program The Fifth Wheel. She was with both programs until 2002.

Leaving to pursue other ventures, Tyler first commercial film role came in 2002 as Mother Nature in The Santa Clause 2. She shared the screen with recurring cast members Tim Allen, Elizabeth Mitchell, David Krumholtz, Eric Lloyd, Judge Reinhold, Wendy Crewson, and Spencer Breslin.

Tyler also increased her visibility in 2003 when she won the role of Charlie Wheeler on the wildly successful comedy series Friends. Tyler appeared beside the well-known sextet of Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer.

2004 brought her even greater success when she teamed up with the cast of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. From 2004 to 2005, Tyler acted beside series regulars William Petersen, Marg Helgenberger, and Jorja Fox. During her stint with the show, Tyler even got to appear in the two-part episode directed by independent icon Quentin Tarantino.

Staying within the medium of television, Tyler’s next notable role came in 2005 with the runaway success 24. Her character, Marianne Taylor, appeared beside Kiefer Sutherland throughout 2005.

At the same time, Tyler became a regular on the series Ghost Whisperer with Jennifer Love Hewitt. She was with this program until the end of 2006.

Keeping busy more recently, Tyler appeared opposite Dan Fogler, Christopher Walken, George Lopez, and Maggie Q in the 2007 comedy Balls of Fury.

She is currently in post-production for the film Black Water Transit.

Outside of acting, Tyler released her first book in January 2004. It was entitled Swerve: A Guide to the Sweet Life for Postmodern Girls.

In her personal life, Tyler has been married to Jeff Tietjens, a lawyer, since 1992. Both Tietjens and Tyler are avid consumers and brewers of beer.
