Alexa Vega Bio

Alexa Vega

Relative newcomer Alexa Vega has proven more than just another fresh faced child star. With a multitude of blockbuster films under her belt as well as a new but potentially fruitful recording career, Vega is definitely a star to keep your eye on.

Alexa Ellesse Vega was born August 27, 1988 in Miami, Florida. She is of Colombian descent on her father’s side. Inspiring her siblings with her success, Vega has two acting sisters, Makenzie Vega and Krizia Vega. Rounding out the family is her two half-sisters and one half-brother. Vega lived in Florida for four years before the family relocated to California.

Vega made her onscreen debut in 1993 with the television sitcom Evening Shade. She appeared in six episodes over 1993 and 1994 alongside season regulars Burt Reynolds, Ossie Davis, and Michael Jeter.

As her television stint ended, she quickly earned her first film role with the family friendly Little Giants. Winning increasingly commercial roles, she next appeared in the medical drama series ER opposite Anthony Edwards, George Clooney, Noah Wyle, Julianna Margulies, William H Macy, and Ving Rhames.

For the next six years, Vega became Hollywood’s go to child actor. She made several more television appearances on shows such as Chicago Hope, Life’s Work, and The Magnificent Seven as well as landing a recurring role on the short-lived series To Have & to Hold in 1998. Other cast members included Jason Beghe, Moira Kelly, Jason Wiles, and Stephen Lee.

A particularly notable film role during this time was the drama Twister with all star cast Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Cary Elwes, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Alan Ruck. She also appeared in Nine Months, The Glimmer Man, Ghosts of Mississippi, among others.

Her big break, however, came in 2001 when she starred in Robert Rodriguez’s family oriented adventure film Spy Kids. Practically overnight, she became a household name. With an impressive list of costars such as Antonio Banderas, Carla Gugino, Daryl Sabara, Alan Cumming, Tony Shalhoub, Teri Hatcher, and Cheech Marin, Vega joined the ranks of Hollywood’s child stars.

She increased her visibility by starring in the two subsequent sequels, Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams and Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over. Setting herself apart from other young talent, Vega performed almost all of her own stunts as well as recorded two singles for the film’s soundtrack.

She is also noted for her roles in Sleepover, Odd Girl Out, and The Beautiful Ordinary. More recently, she made her Broadway debut for the highly popular musical Hairspray.

Vega currently lived in New York City after having lived with her mother and stepfather in Los Angeles. She is an avid freshwater fishing fan and accomplished gymnast. She is also fluent in Spanish.
