Alyssa Milano Biography
Alyssa Milano first became widely known while playing the role of Tony Danza’s daughter in Who’s the Boss. But she seemed to spend many of her young adult years trying to dump that original wholesome image. As she matured; however, Milano seemed to backtrack some, trying to regain some of that image.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on December 19, 1972, Alyssa and brother Cory Milano (also an actor) were raised on Staten Island by their Italian-Amerian parents. They are the cousins of actors Eric Lloyd and Emily Ann Lloyd. At the age of seven, Milano’s babysitter brought Alyssa with her to an audition for the first national tour of Annie. While her babysitter didn’t land a part, Milano was awarded the role of one of the orphans. She toured for a year-and-a-half with Annie. Returning home, Milano did a few off-Broadway plays and some commercials as well.
Milano’s family moved to Los Angeles when she was ten in order for her to accept the role of Samantha Macelli, Tony Danza’s daughter on Who’s the Boss. The show also starred Judith Light and Katharine Helmond. Milano also played the part of Arnold Schwarzenegger's daughter in the movie Commando just as her popular run on Who’s the Boss was beginning. Alyssa’s wholesome image was actually used to create the character Ariel in the Disney movie, The Little Mermaid. Milano had literally grown up on the show and by the time Who’s the Boss ended, she was a mature eighteen year old.
Danza was somewhat disapproving of the direction Milano’s career took after Who’s the Boss. He admits to worrying about her, but says it wasn’t his place to say anything. She posed nude for Bikini magazine a year after the show ended and also got a series of tattoos. It seemed she was trying to shed that image of Samantha Micelli.
Her next big role was in the made-for-television movie Casualties of Love: The Long Island Lolita Story, the true account of a young Amy Fisher who attempts to murder her older boyfriend’s wife. She starred in this movie with Jack Scalia. In 1994, Milano filmed Double Dragon with Scott Wolf and her brother, Cody. After this and a string of other movies that weren’t big hits, Milano joined Heather Locklear and Courtney Thorne Smith with the cast of Melrose Place.M
ilano also took the opportunity to use her singing voice that had been discovered at a young age and had initially given her the chance to perform in Annie. She made five albums that were highly successful outside the though not very popular within the country. She also used her voice in the animated movie Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure, as the character of Angel.
In 1996, she played best friend to Reese Witherspoon's character Nicole Walker in Fear, which also starred Mark Wahlberg as the psychotic ex-boyfriend. When Melrose Place ended, Milano filmed a few more unsuccessful movies and returned once again to series television in Charmed, a show about three sisters who are witches. She starred in this along with Shannon Doherty, Holly Marie Combs, and Rose McGowan. During the show’s eight year run, Milano even acted as a producer along with Combs.
Milano was engaged to actor Scott Wolf for a short time, but the relationship ended before it led to marriage. She also dated two of her co-stars from Charmed, Brian Krause and Greg Vaughan, along with pitcher Carl Pavano from the New York Yankees. Milano was also briefly married to rocker Cinjun Tate from the group Remy Zero.
From wholesome to shocking, the image Milano portrays has now become that of concerned citizen. She became a vegetarian after September 11, when a friend who was near the crash site mentioned the smell of burning flesh. She has fought for the rights of celebrities on the internet, and has also become a spokesperson for UNICEF. Let us know of updates to the Alyssa Milano biography at editor@yuddy.com |
