Amy Sedaris

Comedian, actress, author, and entertainer, Amy Sedaris has worked a variety of angles in Hollywood from film to television. As the younger sister of humorist Dave Sedaris, Amy’s comedic personality is relative – literally.

Amy Sedaris was born in Endicott, New York, on March 29, 1961. Of Greek heritage, Sedaris enjoyed a close relationship with her father and her brother, whom she looked up to as a child. She was a member of Second City and Annoyance Theatre comedy troupes in Chicago. As an actress, she is best known for her role as Jerri Blank in television’s Strangers with Candy, which Sedaris co-wrote with Paul Dinello and Stephen Colbert.

Sedaris has appeared in numerous television sitcoms including Just Shoot Me! with David Spade and Laura San Giacomo, Sex and the City with Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Catrall, Monk with Tony Shaloub, and most recently, My Name is Earl with Jason Lee and Jaime Pressly. Her film appearances include Maid in Manhattan, starring Jennifer Lopez; Bewitched, starring Nicole Kidman and Will Ferrell; and also an appearance in Elf, which also starred Will Ferrell.

Besides acting, Sedaris has been a favorite on The Late Show with David Letterman and The Colbert Report. Sedaris has also written plays, including one with her brother David titled “The Book of Liz”. She is currently promoting the October 2006 release of her book “I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence,” a tongue-in-cheek guide to household parties and entertaining. While she approaches the subject with a comedic overtone meant to make readers laugh out loud, she does throw in random tips (fill your medicine cabinet with marbles to announce a nosey guest) along with genuinely helpful hints and actual recipes.

Actually, anything Sedaris has to offer in the way of advice for the kitchen probably stems from her home-based business where she makes gourmet cupcakes and cheeseballs for sale from her Greenwich Village apartment. She resides there with her rabbit named Dusty. Not surprising from someone having a rabbit as a roommate, Sedaris actively supports PETA’s anti-fur program. Little is known about Sedaris’s personal life, especially romantic interests, but she routinely refers to an imaginary boyfriend named “Ricky” who might or might not be dead in her apartment.

In addition to the recent release of her book, Sedaris can be heard in the upcoming 2007 release of Shrek the Third, the completion of Dreamwork’s Shrek trilogy, starring Mike Meyers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy. Sedaris is the voice of Cinderella.
