Andie MacDowell 

Andie MacDowell is a Hollywood beauty whose looks never seem to fade. Her face has been gracing the pages of magazines since 1978, and lighting up the big screen since 1984.

Rosalie Anderson MacDowell, known as Andie, was born on April 21, 1958, in Gaffney South Carolina. Her parents had an unhappy marriage and divorced when she was six years old. The youngest of four sisters, Andie MacDowell left college in her sophomore year to sign with the Elite modeling agency. One of her early modeling jobs that gained her attention was her Calvin Klein television ads. 

Those ads led Andie MacDowell to her first film role, playing Jane opposite Christopher Lambert’s Tarzan in the 1984 movie Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. While her beauty was perfect for the role of Jane, her southern accent was not. MacDowell’s entire performance was dubbed over with the voice of Glenn Close. Although an embarrassment for MacDowell, she continued to act and was next seen with the Brat Pack in 1985’s St. Elmo’s Fire. She played the unrequited love of Emelio Estevez’s character. 

For a while, her acting career stalled, but it was revived when she was cast in 1989’s Sex, Lies and Video Tape. The movie made her a star, and interesting roles came her way after that. Her first leading lady role came in Green Card in 1990, opposite Gerard Depardieu. Next came the famously bad movie Hudson Hawk in 1991, opposite Bruce Willis. She made sixteen movies in the 1990s and will likely be best remembered for her performances in Groundhog Day from 1993, with Bill Murray and Four Weddings and a Funeral from 1994, with Hugh Grant. 

Andie MacDowell seems to have stayed away from the intense scrutiny that many Hollywood stars receive, perhaps because she is not known for her romantic entanglements with her co-stars. In 1986 she married Paul Qualley, a former model turned rancher. During their thirteen year marriage, they had three children. The couple divorced in 1999. In 2001 she remarried, this time to childhood friend Rhett Hartzog. The couple’s marriage lasted three years. In December of 2005 she became engaged to Kevin Geagan, a business man from North Carolina.

Andie MacDowell’s movie career has slowed down, but her modeling career is still in full swing. The woman twice named one of People magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People is now in her mid-forties, and is a spokes model for L’Oreal Paris. She appears in advertisements for L’Oreal’s hair care products and cosmetics both in print and on television. Her movie career is not completely finished either. In 2006, she lent her voice talents to the animated film, Barnyard, and has role in the upcoming movie Intervention.
