Andy Dick is an actor, comedian, and one of Hollywood’s most unusual celebrities. He became well known for his role as Matthew Brock on the critically acclaimed sitcom News Radio, which ran for five seasons. Andy Dick was born on December 21, 1965, and was adopted by Allen and Sue Dick. He was raised in Joliet, Illinois, where he was the class clown in his high school. He later attended Columbia College Chicago, an arts and communications college. Dick got his start in acting on the Ben Stiller directed short, Elvis Stories in 1989. He has worked with Stiller several times since, in such projects such as The Ben Stiller Show (1992), Reality Bites (1994), and Zoolander (2001).

He’s had supporting roles in such movies as The Cable Guy (1996) with Jim Carrey, Best Men with Drew Barrymore, and Inspector Gadget with Matthew Broderick. While he’s had roles in many films, Andy Dick is better known for his work on television. In addition to his role in News Radio, he played Owen Kronsky on the ABC sitcom Less Than Perfect with Sara Rue and Eric Roberts. The show lasted from 2002 to 2006. He also found the time to star in a fake reality show on MTV called The Assistant in 2004. It spoofed popular reality shows.Andy Dick is very forthcoming about his personal life.

He is openly bisexual and is known for his hard partying lifestyle. He was married once from 1986 to 1990 to Ivone Kowalczyk and the two have a son named Lucas. They continued to live together after the divorce and well into his relationship with his next long-term relationship with Lina Sved. He and Sved have two children, Jacob and Meg. At one point Andy Dick, his ex-wife, her new boyfriend, Lina Sved, and Andy Dick’s three children all shared the same home.  Andy Dick is also known for his association with celebrities who have met early deaths. He was a friend of comedian Chris Farley who died in 1997 of a drug overdose. The two comedians had been partners at a rehab as well as friends. His co-star on News Radio, Phil Hartman, was murdered by his wife, Brynn, in 1998. Hours after shooting Hartman twice in the head, she turned the gun on herself and committed suicide. Andy Dick was close to Hartman and felt the loss keenly. One year later, another friend, David Strickland committed suicide after being on a three-day drug and alcohol binge with Andy Dick.

Strickland had been one of Andy’s co-stars from the sitcom Suddenly Susan, along with Brooke Shields Currently, Andy Dick is turning has attention to film and directing. He wrote and directed the 2006 film Danny Roane: First Time Director in which he plays the title character. The film also stars Jack Black, Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Stiller, Maura Tierney, and James Van Der Beek.
