Anjelica Huston Bio
Anjelica Huston

Anjelica Huston was born on July 8, 1951, in Los Angeles, California, to director John Huston and his fourth wife, ballerina Enrica Somma. Huston spent most of her childhood growing up in Ireland and England, attending prestigious all-girl boarding schools. Although her father was reluctant to allow his daughter to become an actress, he did allow her to appear in his films Sinful Davey in 1969 and A Walk with Love and Death in 1969.

Huston went on to appear in a few films throughout the 70s, but at five-foot-ten, she focused mainly on modeling. Huston returned to films in the 80s after taking up acting lessons, earning an Oscar for her performance in Prizzi's Honor alongside Kathleen Turner and her long-time partner, Jack Nicholson. Huston earned additional Oscar nominations for her performances in Enemies: A Love Story in 1989 and The Grifters in 1990 with John Cusack and Annette Bening. She also earned Golden Globe nominations for her role as Morticia Addams in the early-90s Addams Family films, alongside Raul Julia, Christopher Lloyd, Joan Cusack, and Christina Ricci. Despite Huston’s breakup with Jack Nicholson and subsequent marriage to sculptor, Robert Graham in 1992, Huston continued to act alongside Nicholson in such films as Sean Penn's The Crossing Guard in 1995.

In 1996, Huston made her directorial debut with the controversial Bastard out of Carolina, which featured a child rape scene and starred Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lyle Lovett, Jena Malone, and Dermot Mulroney. The new millennium saw Huston appearing in a series of diverse films, including the critically-acclaimed The Royal Tenenbaums in 2001, with Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ben Stiller, Luke Wilson, and Owen Wilson; The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou in 2004, with Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, and Jeff Goldblum; and Material Girls in 2006, with Hilary Duff and Haylie Duff.

The Hustons are the first to have three generations of Academy Award winners in their family. Oscar-winning director, John Huston directed his father, Walter Huston, in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre and his daughter, Anjelica, in Prizzi's Honor; and both won Oscars for their performances. The second family to have achieved this feat in Hollywood is the Coppolas.

Huston has also appeared on the small screen to critical acclaim, receiving five Emmy Award nominations for her television work and a Golden Globe Award for Supporting Actress in a TV Program for her work on Iron Jawed Angels, also starring Hilary Swank.

Along with her husband and eleven cats (eight outdoor and three indoor), Huston lives in Venice, Los Angeles, in a windowless fortress built by her husband and surrounded by a forty-foot fence.
