Anna Nicole Smith Anna Nicole Smith is famous for being Playboy’s Playmate of the Year in 1993 and for marrying an eighty-nine-year-old oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall on June 27, 1994. She was only twenty-six at the time. Anna Nicole Smith was born in Houston, Texas, on November 28, 1967, as Vicki Lynn Hogan. She was raised by her mother, Virgie Hogan Hart Arthur, and her aunt after her father, Donald Eugene Hogan, deserted his family. Throughout Smith’s childhood she always had the dream to be the next Marilyn Monroe. However, during her late teens it didn’t seem like this dream would ever come true. She worked at a chicken fast food restaurant and married Billy Smith on April 4, 1985, when she was just seventeen years old. On January 22, 1986, she gave birth to her first child, the late Daniel Wayne Smith. Daniel died from a lethal drug overdose while visiting his mother at the maternity ward in Doctors Hospital in Nassau, Bahamas, on September 10, 2006, just days after she had given birth to her second child, a girl named Dannielynn Hope. In 1987 Anna and Billy Smith divorced and Anna was left to care for her son on her own. She began working at topless bars in Houston under various names including Nikki and Robin before settling on the pseudonym Anna Nicole. As a stripper, Smith was noticed more for her rear than her breasts. At that time she didn’t have the buxom look that she had when she graced the cover of Playboy in March 1992. While working in the strip clubs she met J. Howard Marshall who seemed to really take to her. It’s said that she used Marshall ’s money to get a significant breast enlargement surgery with two implants inserted into each breast. When she was twenty-four she entered and won the Playboy cover contest. Two years later she married oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall. She never actually lived with him and had several alleged romantic relationships while she was married to him.
The same year, in 1994, Smith made her screen debut in the slapstick comedy Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final I with Leslie Nielsen. When Marshall died on August 4, 1995, his nurse reported that Smith was not with him. According to Marshall ’s nurse, Smith didn’t even visit him when he became terminal. Smith insists that she loved Marshall and was devastated by his death. Within weeks after Marshall ’s death Smith started fighting with the man’s son, E. Pierce Marshall, over getting half of her husband’s $1.6 billion estate. After a highly publicized court battle, Smith was awarded $450 million in 2000. The following year a Houston judge ruled that Smith was entitled to nothing and ordered her to pay over $1 million in fees and expenses to Pierce's legal team. After several more court rulings, Smith was finally given the right to pursue her claims to Marshall ’s estate on May 1, 2006. The ruling doesn’t give Smith a portion of her husband's estate, and the legal battle still continues. In 2002 Smith started her own reality show, The Anna Nicole Show, which was cancelled in 2004 due to “creative differences.” The show featured an overweight dramatic ditzy Smith, miles away from Playboy days but still painful entertaining to watch. In October 2003, she became a spokesperson for Trimspa, a fat blocking supplement, which helped her to lose a more than sixty pounds and restore her spot as a sex symbol. On September 7, 2006, she gave birth to her daughter Dannielyn Birkhead whose father is listed as Smith’s longtime personal attorney, Howard K Stern. Entertainment photojournalist Larry Birkhead claims he’s the child’s father and has filed a lawsuit to challenge paternity. The battle over who the child’s real father was to continue. Sadly, before Anna Nicole Smith could realise her dream of raising her baby daughter, she died at the age of 39 on February 8th 2007. Anna collapsed in her room at the Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino in Florida. Anna's nurse found her to be unresponsive at 1.38 pm at which time fire rescue workers attempted CPR before she was taken to the local Hollywood hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Howard K Stern was named as the executor of Anna Nicole Smith’s will but was contested by her mother, Virgie Arthur, who stated that the will was never filed in the courts so therefore is not legal. Up until February 22nd 2007 Anna Nicole’s body remained at the medical examiner's office in the Bahamas while Stern, Birkhead and her mother contested the final resting place of Anna’s body. The medical examiner has reported that the official cause of her death is still unknown. Her final burial place was announced on March 1st 2007 and Anna Nicole's body was laid to rest on Friday March 2nd at 10.30 next to her son in the Bahamas. The saga carried on for months after Anna's death regarding the parentage of her baby, Dannielyn. But finally on April 10th 2007 a court in the Bahamas ruled that Larry Birkhead is the father of Anna Nicole Smith's baby. After the ruling Larry appeared infront of the cameras and microphones, waving the court papers, to a huge cheer from a large group of supporters who had been waiting to hear, and share his good news, letting them know that the baby really is Dannielyn Birkhead.
