Ashlee Simpson Biography The younger sister of singing star, Jessica Simpson, Ashlee was determined to be different and achieve her own success. After releasing an album with a harder sound, changing her hair style, and starring in a reality television show of her own, Ashlee Simpson set herself apart from her sister and seemed to have all the makings of a singing star. She has also endured some hard times after a musical mishap on a popular television show when she was caught miming to her record! Ashlee Simpson was born on October 3, 1984, in Dallas Texas. Growing up, she studied ballet and began dancing professionally at the young age of fourteen. Before signing her own recording contract, she spent time on the road with her older sister Jessica and had a few small film roles.
In 2004, everything seemed to be going right for Simpson. She released her CD, Autobiography, which rose to number one on the music charts and also starred in the self-titled reality series The Ashlee Simpson Show. But her seemingly perfect career was about to hit a snag. In October of 2004, she appeared as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live. As the second performance was about to begin, a recording of Ashlee’s voice began to play while she was nowhere near the microphone. After doing an embarrassing jig, one which would be replayed time and again to the amusement of everybody but Ashlee, she walked off the stage. Although she tried to explain that her band was playing the wrong song, and also claimed she was suffering from voice problems due to acid reflux, the repercussions were swift. People from the music industry, former fans, and the public criticized the use of pre-recorded tracks and questioned Simpson’s singing abilities. Ashlee’s ego took another hit when she was booed for her performance of “La La” at the Orange Bowl in early 2005. Throughout her difficult times, Ashlee has retained her composure remarkably well. After the SNL disaster, she released a second album, I Am Me, which debuted at number one and featured “Boyfriend” and “L.O.V.E.,” two tracks which reached the Billboard Top 100 and the U.S. Top Forty respectively.
In a brave move, Simpson made another appearance as the musical guest on SNL, this time singing two tracks from her second album with no help from voice recordings. Simpson toured extensively to promote her second album and appeared on several popular magazines including Teen People and Jane. Simpson also received two MTV Australia Video Music Awards, released her new single “Invisible” in the summer of 2006. After a difficult stretch for Ashlee, one which few performers could survive, her career appeared to be on the mend. Still in her early twenties, Ashlee has already been involved in several highly-publicized romances. Her relationship with actor Josh Henderson lasted two years, and the breakup was covered on the first episode of The Ashlee Simpson Show. Ashlee quickly found a new love in singer Ryan Cabrera. Their love connection was covered on the show and Simpson was featured in Cabrera’s video for the single “On the Way Down.” The off-and-on romance ended in the summer of 2005. She then moved on to Wilmer Valderrama, best known for his portrayal of the loveable, love-starved Fez on That 70s Show. It was speculated that Ashlee was the cause of Wilmer’s breakup with singer and actress Lindsay Lohan and stories of a feud between the two women flooded the tabloids. Simpson went on to be linked to her band’s guitarist Braxton Olita. She was less than obvious in revealing details about the relationship but did mention in an interview that the pair had enjoyed a romantic getaway to beautiful Hawaii. By late 2006 Ashlee was rumoured to be dating Fall Out Boy guitarist Pete Wentz although once again both Pete and Ashlee denied the rumours. But time passed and eventually the two could contain there happiness no longer and revealed to the world that they had become engaged in early April 2008. Of course the ususal remours abounded that the engagement was due to Ashlee's pregnancy but once again the couple denied the rumours, which eventually proved to be true. By May 2008 Ashlee and Pete had signed on the dotted line of their marriage certificate after Ashlee's father, Joe, performed the non-denominational ceremony. Her sister Jessica served as maid of honor and Wentz's English bulldog, Hemingway, was the ring-bearer. Guests included Jessica's boyfriend, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and Nicole Richie and her partner Joel Madden. By the summer of 2008 Ashlee could be seen around Beverley Hills on shopping sprees with friend, and new mother, Nicole, sporting an extremely large baby bump. On May 28, 2008, the happy couple announced that they were expecting their first child. That fall, Pete said they were "90% sure it was a boy". On November 20, 2008, Ashlee gave birth to their son, Bronx Mowgli Wentz. Let us know of updates to the Ashlee Simpson biography at editor@yuddy.com |
