Bam Margera Bio

Bam Margera

Professional skateboarder, the driving force behind the CKY series, and an integral part of the Jackass films, Bam Margera has solidified his place as one of America’s most beloved hooligans.

Brandon Cole Margera (legally changed to Bam Margera) was born September 28, 1979 in West Chester, Pennsylvania. His parents are Phil Margera and April Margera, the unwitting victims of Margera’s later series, Viva la Bam.

Margera attended East High School until his close friend, Chris Raab, was expelled. Margera, rationalizing Raab was the only reason to attend school, dropped out. Due to his parent’s persistence, he eventually earned his GED.

In the early 90s, Margera began documenting his friend’s various skateboard stunts. This eventually translated into the film Landspeed: CKY and subsequent sequels CKY2K, CKY 3, and CKY 4 Latest & Greatest. Margera served as editor, director, writer, producer, and cinematographer. Friends Brandon Dicamillo, Ryan Dunn, Chris Raab, and Rakeyohn provided the stunt footage.

As the CKY series gained momentum, Margera was officially enlisted into the Jackass crowd. Margera worked on Jackass: The Movie as well as Jackass Number Two beside Jason Acuna, Johnny Knoxville, Preston Lacy, Chris Pontius, and Steve O.

Margera’s popularity eventually earned him his own show, Viva la Bam, which ran successfully from 2003 to 2005. Breaking from the dangerous stunts of his former productions, Viva la Bam basically followed Margera and his gang of friends attempting to shock, upset, and generally anger his parents in unique ways each week.

His personal life also spawned an original television show, Bam’s Unholy Union, which began in 2007. The show is currently on hiatus while MTV decides whether to continue for a second season. The show dealt with Bam’s everyday life as well as his wedding preparations to fiancée Missy Rothstein. The series ended with the couple’s marriage on February 3, 2007. They honeymooned in Dubai.

His previous relationship with longtime girlfriend Jenn Rivell did not end so well. When the relationship went south in 2005, Margera claimed Rivell illegally entered his home and destroyed his property. While the case was ultimately dismissed due to lack of evidence, it was speculated the breakup was preceded by Margera’s (highly unconfirmed and vehemently denied) affair with pop star Jessica Simpson.

Other Margera productions include the semi-autobiographical film, Haggard: The Movie, as well as his weekly radio program, Radio Bam.

Current projects in the works are Minghags and Dream Seller, the latter of which has attached pro skateboarder Tony Hawk.

A man of diverse interests, Margera also owns the increasingly successful Filthy Note Records.
