Beau Bridges Beau Bridge is an American actor who was born as Lloyd Vernet Bridges III on December 9, 1941, in Los Angeles, California . His parents, actor Lloyd Bridges and Dorothy Dean Simpson, nicknamed him 'Beau' after Ashley Wilkes’s son in the classic movie, 'Gone with the Wind' which starred Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. Beau is also the older brother of actor Jeff Bridges.
Beau Bridges appeared in his first movie as a child with an unaccredited role in the 1948 film-noir, Force of Evil. The following year he appeared in the family drama, The Red Pony, which took eighty-one days to shoot. Bridges’ character’s name in the film was Beau.
But becoming an actor wasn’t Bridges first dream. He initially wanted to be a basketball star, and though not an exceptionally tall man at five-foot-ten, he managed to live this dream for a while. During his freshman year he played basketball at the University of California , Los Angeles (UCLA). However, his height was holding him back from being an extraordinary basketball player, so he transferred to the University of Hawaii to continue his sophomore year studies. He eventually dropped out of school to pursue acting instead.
In 1965 he landed the role of Fred in the sci-fi film, Village of Giants . More roles in several other movies followed, and in 1989 he played Sam Woods in the family comedy The Wizard. Sam Woods was constantly bumbling through the film, which later earned Bridges the nickname “Bumbling Beau Bridges.”
On March 22, 1995, Bridges starred in the first two-part episode of Showtime’s new television series The Outer Limits, with his father Lloyd Bridges and his son Dylan Bridges.
In 2001 he guest-starred as Daniel McFarland on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace and on April 7, 2003, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next to his father and younger brother, Jeff Bridges.
Two years later, in 2005, he landed his most notable role as Major General Hank Landry, the new commander of the Stargate Command in Stargate SG-1. He also played General Landry in four episodes of the spin-off series, Stargate Atlantis. Later that year, he guest-starred in the NBC comedy My Name is Earl as Carl Hickey, the father of the title character Earl. He starred with one of Hugh Hefner's cover girls, Jaime Pressly, who takes on the role of Joy Turner. The show is known for its wide ranging soundtracks which include, Queen, The Who and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Bridges is active in promoting gun control and environmental causes. He is the president of Ventura Coast Keeper, an environmental group in California that is pushing the state to buy and preserve 265 acres of wetlands near Oxnard that the Occidental Petroleum Corporation wants.
Beau Bridges also likes playing the guitar, swimming, surfing, and collecting Native American percussion instruments. Bridges has been married twice; after twenty years of marriage he divorced his first wife, Julie Landfield, in 1984. The couple adopted son Casey Bridges, born in 1969; and had son Jordan Bridges, born in 1973, biologically. In 1984 Bridges married his current wife, Wendy Treece, and the two have three children: Dylan Bridges, born in 1985; Emily "Beau" Bridges, born in 1987; and Ezekiel (Zeke) Jeffrey Bridges, born in 1993.
