Ben Chaplin Bio
Ben Chaplin Although this actor’s name may not be instantly recognizable, it is not because he lacks talent. Chaplin takes his profession very seriously, preferring to take on roles that challenge and interest him, rather than just taking on any role that will give him exposure. Chaplin has appeared alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood, and his abilities have been featured both on the small stage and the big screen. Ben Chaplin was born on July 31, 1970, in London, England. Growing up, Ben was, by his own account, a less than model student. After appearing in a play at the young age of sixteen, he decided that he wanted to be an actor. Chaplin obtained professional training at the London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama and then worked with several theater companies. Subsequently, he appeared in the television movie Bye Bye Baby and had small roles in the films The Remains of the Day and Feast of July, but remained relatively unknown to worldwide audiences. Chaplin gained some exposure with his portrayal of Matthew Malone in the British sitcom Game On, but left the series before it ended, deciding to focus his efforts on motion pictures.
Ben’s first major role in an American motion picture was in the 1996 film The Truth About Cats and Dogs, which also featured Pulp Fiction star Uma Thurman. Although the film was a success, earning over six million in its opening weekend, and grossing thirty-four million in total, Chaplin would continue to choose his roles sparingly. Other notable film credits include Murder by Numbers, which earned over nine million in its opening weekend; The Thin Red Line; and Lost Souls. Ben’s work as a screen actor has seen him acting with Nicole Kidman, Winona Ryder, and David Cross. He is set to co-star in the upcoming films Bronte and Waterhorse. Presently, Ben also enjoys a successful stage career. He has received several award nominations, including an Olivier Award nomination for Best Supporting Performer in the production The Glass Menagerie, as well as a Tony nomination for Best Actor for his work in The Retreat From Moscow. While he may never achieve super-star status in Hollywood, Chaplin’s good looks and unquestionable talent will probably see him enjoying a viable acting career for many years to come. The details of Ben’s personal life are scarce at best. He was once involved with actress Embeth Davidtz who has appeared in Matilda and Bridget Jones’s Diary. The pair separated years ago and Ben’s current relationship status is not known. He was once linked to Joanne Rivera. Recent tabloid rumors have stated that model Catalina Guirado was seen flirting with Ben at the release of Pirates of the Caribbean. Supposedly, he resisted her advances, but it isn’t clear whether his rejection was because of a current commitment, or simply a lack of interest.
