Ben Savage Though acting seems to be a family forte, Ben Savage, the younger brother of Fred Savage, star of The Wonder Years, has been making a name for himself since his career was catapulted by his biggest role yet as Corey Matthews on the ABC series Boy Meets World. Ben had an early start in front of the camera and now has a promising career in acting and possibly even politics. Bennett Joseph Savage was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 13, 1980. With two older siblings, Fred and Kala Savage, a stage actress, Ben was the third child born to Lewis and Joanne Savage. He resided with his family in a suburb of Chicago. Ben first appeared in front of a camera at the age of five when he did his first commercial. He made his film debut in 1989 at the age of nine when he appeared in Little Monsters alongside older brother Fred, who Ben often credits with inspiring him to act. Ben also appeared in an episode of his big brother’s The Wonder Years in 1990.
Ben quickly established himself in television with roles on the short-lived series Dear John starring Judd Hirsch and the even shorter series A Family for Joe, along with the television movie She Woke Up, starring Lindsay Wagner. Ben’s breakthrough came in 1993 when he landed the leading role on a new ABC sitcom titled Boy Meets World. The series, which also starred Danielle Fishel, Rider Strong, Matthew Lawrence, and William Daniels, was an instant hit. BMW, as the show is known to its fan base, netted Ben a Kid’s Choice Award and several Young Artist Awards for his role as Corey Matthews. The show enjoyed a seven-year run with Boy Meets World as part of ABC’s Friday night line up airing from 1993 to 2000. Fred Savage even directed one episode in 1999. In addition to television, Ben has pursued film and stage acting. He most recently starred in the 2002 film Swimming Upstream and has two films scheduled for release in 2007. Already completed is Car Babes, a comedy movie directed by Nick Fumia and Chris Wolf also starring Napoleon Dynamite’s Jon Greis, and in post-production is Palo Alto , which stars Tom Arnold. Besides heavily pursuing an acting career, young Ben Savage also pursued higher education. He graduated from Stanford University in 2004 with a degree in political science. During the summer of 2003, Savage interned in the office of United States senator Arlan Specter. Savage also volunteers for the Elisabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.
At the age of twenty-six and with such an impressive resume, it’s hard to know just where Ben Savage might turn up next. It’s a sure bet that wherever he goes, Savage is ready to meet the world. YUDDY |
