Benjamin Bratt Biography

Though probably best known for his role on television’s long-running hit drama series Law & Order, Benjamin Bratt has numerous other film and television credits, most lesser known, that compile his acting portfolio. Benjamin Bratt was born December 16, 1963, in San Francisco, California. One of five children, Bratt attended Lowell High School and was a member of Lowell Forensic Society, the oldest high school speech and debate organization in the United States. He continued on to higher education, attending the University of California Santa Barbara and the American Conservatory Theater where he earned a B.A. and master’s respectively.

After studying acting and theater, Benjamin Bratt began his television acting career, which dates back to 1987. Though he gained experience as a TV cop in his role in the single-season series Nasty Boys, it was his role as detective Rey Curtis on Law & Order that steadied his career. His own German-Peruvian heritage was a seemingly perfect match for the television character Bratt portrayed. Bratt’s role on Law & Order earned him two back-to-back Emmy nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Drama Series. Benjamin Bratt’s film credits include Miss Congeniality and Catwoman. He has since continued with his television and film career, starring in NBC’s military drama series E-Ring and also has two films in pre-production.

As with most television and film actors whose private lives are often public, Benjamin’s four-year dating relationship with Julia Roberts was no exception. Seen together at many Hollywood engagements, Bratt and Roberts were the subject of many a flash photography assaults until 2001, when their dating relationship ended and Benjamin Bratt was an eligible bachelor once more. This status was short-lived when in 2002 he married actress and model Talisa Soto, whom he met while filming the movie Piñero. Bratt and Soto have two children together. Their daughter, Sophia Rosalinda Bratt, was born in December of 2002 and their son, Mateo Bravery Bratt, was born in October of 2005.
