Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Bio

Baliwal Bhutto Zardi

In a similar way to the dynasty of the Gandhi family, the eldest son of Benazir Bhuttos has been thrown into the public and political arena following the assassination of his mother on December 27th 2007. Still pursuing his education at Oxford University, England, this young Pakistani made a dash to his homeland to speak on behalf of the PPP, the political group his late mother lead.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was born on September 21st 1988 the son of former Pakistani Priminister Benazir Bhutto and the eldest of three children. Along with the family Bilawal has spent most of his life abroad after his mother inflicted self imposed exile on herself after being removed as Prime Minister amid charges of corruption.

Bilawal attended Rashid School For Boys in Dubai, where he became Vice President of the student council. Following his early education Baliwal began studying history and political science at Christ Church of Oxford University, where his grandfather also studied and which saw his mother gaining her degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.

Baliwal is has become a black belt in Taekwondo during his time in the UK.

Baliwal’s grandfather, also former Prime Minister of Pakistan was executed after charges of conspiracy to murder in 1979 at which point Benazir followed her father into politics after which her two brothers also met with violent, suspicious deaths.

Benazir actually left a will stating that Bilawal Zardari should be the "heir" to the PPP leadership which prompted him to take to the political stage. Like the Nehru-Gandhi family in India, the Bhuttos of Pakistan are one of the world's most famous political dynasties an as such it is expected that the honour of leading the PPP should fall to Benazir’s son.

Benazir Bhutto became chief of the PPP at the age of 31 following the assassination of her father, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

Baliwal is currently a student at Oxford University, England and has no political experience. The decisions on the future of Bhutto's Pakistan Peoples Party were made at a closed-door meeting in the sprawling family estate in the south of the country where the two-time former prime minister grew up.

Baliwal, although accepting the position has decided to remain at university for now. His father, and husband of Benazir, Asif Ali Zardari who was officially designated co-chairman, would be the effective party leader.

Prior to his appointment as the leader of the PPP he was known as Baiwal Zardi but following his appointment he will now be known as Baliwal Bhutto Zardari.
