Bitty Schram Bio

Bitty Schram Biography

American actress Bitty Schram is most known for her debut role in the comedy A League of Their Own as well as her long running stint with the hit series Monk. She is also an accomplished stage actress most known for her time with Broadway.

Elizabeth Natalie Schram, known popularly as Bitty Schram, was born July 17, 1968 in New York, New York. She obtained her secondary education from the University of Maryland where she majored in advertising design. She attended on a tennis scholarship.

Before she ever stepped in front of a camera, Schram pursued her acting career onstage. To that end, she performed in various Broadway productions before taking the leap into work for the big screen. Schram’s onstage career was highlighted by an appearance opposite Nathan Lane in Neil Simon’s Laughter on the 23rd Floor.

Her onscreen debut came in 1992 with the star-studded Penny Marshall film A League of Their Own. Playing Evelyn Gardner, Schram shared the screen with Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Madonna, Jon Lovitz, Bill Pullman, Rosie ODonnell, and Ann Cusack.

For the next decade, Schram continued to work in film and television. In the early 90s, she had a bit part in Fathers & Sons as well as My Family Treasure. Slowly gaining recognition, some may recognize Schram as the pharmacy clerk in 1993’s romantic comedy The Night We Never Met with Matthew Broderick and Jeanne Tripplehorn.

Continually drawn to comedies, Schram’s roles grew increasingly large. This was exemplified in 1996’s The Pallbearer where she portrayed the supporting role of Lauren. Her costars also grew in status as she appeared in that film with David Schwimmer, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Toni Collette.

Schram and Schwimmer teamed up again in 1998 with yet another romantic comedy, Kissing a Fool. This time around, Schram also worked with Jason Lee, Mili Avital, Bonnie Hunt, and Judy Greer.

Later in 1998, however, Schram switched gears quite drastically when she took a starring role in the sexually explicit drama Cleopatra’s Second Husband.

She is most known, though, for her two-year stint with the hit series Monk. Starring opposite Tony Shalhoub, Schram played Sharona Fleming from 2002 to 2004. Among speculations of onset tension and salary disputes, Schram’s character was replaced by Traylor Howard. Playing the female counterpart to Shalhoub, Howard began playing Natalie in 2005. She is currently still with the show.

Schram was recognized at the 2002 Golden Globe Awards for her work with the show, although she ultimately lost to Sarah Jessica Parker.

After her departure from the show, Schram briefly worked with Thief. She appeared for two episodes opposite Andre Braugher, Mae Whitman, and Yancey Arias.

She also made appearances in the films A-List in 2006 and You’ve Got a Friend in 2007.
