Britt Ekland “The big bosomed lady with the Dutch accent who tried to change my point of view!” These lyrics are rumored to have been penned by Rod Stewart for the Swedish born lady in his life - maybe “Swedish accent” didn’t quite fit as well as “Dutch accent!” In fact, Britt Ekland (presumably the big-bosomed lady) was born on October 6th 1942 in Stockholm, Sweden to a successful retailer father; the only girl among three younger brothers. Britt Ekland was originally famous for being the wife of British comedian Peter Sellers whom she married in 1963, when she was seventeen years his junior. This was around the time he was suffering a number of massive heart attacks. However, this did not stop the couple from producing their daughter Victoria in 1965 and going on to appear in two subsequent movies, “After the Fox” and “The Bobo.” The marriage was doomed to survive only five years. Britt divorced Sellers in an extremely acrimonious divorce.
Ekland went on to have a relationship with the record producer Lou Adler and together they had a son, Nicholai, in 1973. Prior to appearing the two movies with Sellers, Ekland had a less than successful film career. She had appeared in a number of Italian movies but after her relationship with Sellers, her movie career took off. Ekland became a star in her own right, appearing as the prim Quaker girl who inadvertently invented the strip-tease in “The Night They Raided Minsky's’” and in the 1974 cult thriller, “The Wicker Man.” Britt’s best-received role was in the James Bond film “The Man with the Golden Gun” (1974). She starred as Mary Goodnight with the then 007, Roger Moore; Christopher Lee; and one of Hugh Hefner’s cover girls, Maud Adams. It is however most likely that future generations will remember Britt for her tempestuous and well-documented private life. Britt dated many of Hollywood’s greats including Warren Beatty and Ryan ONeal. In 1971 Britt played the role of Michael Caine’s lover, Anna, in “Get Carter” - a movie which achieved a cult following in the UK but whose Newcastle language was not well understood in America. “Get Carter’” was remade in 2000 under the same title, with Sylvester Stallone starring as Jack Carter, Michael Caine appearing as Cliff Brumby and Mickey Rourke plays the villain Cyrus Paice. This remake was almost universally poorly received.
In 1980 when she took up with Stray Cats drummer Jim McDonnell, she became synonymous with the term ‘Toyboy’ as Jim was eighteen years her junior( as opposed to her relationship with Sellers when she was seventeen years his junior). The couple married in 1988 and divorced four years later. Together they have a son, Thomas Jefferson, who lives with Ekland in London and L.A. Another ‘Toyboy’ relationship was with Les McKeown, the lead singer of the 1970’s British music sensation boy band, The Bay City Rollers. But Britt’s best-known relationship to date was with the rock star Rod Stewart. British actress Joan Collins introduced the pair in 1975. The couple lived together for two years, but the relationship collapsed due to Stewart’s admitted infidelity. Ekland pursued him through the courts and eventually took him for $12 million. In 1998, Britt hit the headlines for being mugged of her Rolex watch in a London supermarket. In recent years, Britt has been a sought after actress in UK pantomimes and has made regular guest appearances on UK TV. She’s also known for her close friendship with Sharon Osbourne and Ozzy Osbourne, who keep her a permanent fixture on the UK rock and roll scene. Britt was portrayed in 2004 by Charlize Theron in ‘The Life and Death of Peter Sellers.’ Theron invited Britt to attend the showing of the movie at the Cannes Film Festival, where she became emotional seeing the film for the first time. Britt is fluent in English, French, German, and her native Swedish. She’s been a UK citizen for many years, where she is a representative of both the Alzheimer's and Osteoporosis organizations. Britt lost her own mother to Alzheimer’s, and she herself was diagnosed with Osteoporosis after a fall that broke her wrist.
