Bryce Dallas Howard Ethereal actress, Bryce Dallas Howard was born on March 2, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. As the daughter of acclaimed director, Ron Howard, and the goddaughter of actor, Henry Winkler, the actress actually grew up watching very little television. Along with her younger twin sisters, Jocelyn and Paige; and her brother, Reed, Howard grew up away from the spotlight, in Greenwich, Connecticut. However, Howard had a passion for acting, and attended the Steppenwolf School and Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts camp with her friend Natalie Portman. Howard then went on to study acting at the Stella Adler Conservatory as well as the New York University Tisch School of Arts, graduating with a BFA in 2003, majoring in drama.
As a child and teen, Howard made a few uncredited appearances in her father’s films, including Parenthood in 1989, starring Steve Martin, Mary Steenburgen, Rick Moranis, Keanu Reeves, and Joaquin Phoenix; Apollo 13 in 1995, starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton; and How the Grinch Stole Christmas in 2000, featuring Jim Carrey, Jeffrey Tambor, and Molly Shannon. After earning her degree, Howard performed in various classic Broadway productions. While on Broadway, Howard caught the eye of twist-ending director, M. Night Shyamalan, who then cast her without an audition as the lead female in The Village in 2004, with Joaquin Phoenix and Adrien Brody; as well as Lady in the Water in 2006, with Paul Giamatti. While on the set of The Village, Howard was shown the documentary Earthlings by her co-star, Joaquin Phoenix, who also narrated the film at the request of PETA. After seeing the film, Howard became a devout vegan, eating no animal products, including milk or eggs. However, in August 2006, she announced that she had switched her diet from vegan to vegetarian.
On June 17, 2006, in Connecticut, Howard married her long-term love of five years, actor Seth Gabel, whom she met at New York University. In August 2006, the couple announced that they were expecting a child, which Howard confirmed is what prompted her switch from veganism to vegetarianism, in an effort to boost her amino acids for the health of the baby. As of 2007, Howard has finished filming the third installment of the Spider-Man series, co-starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst. Playing Peter Parker’s love interest, Gwen Stacy, Howard bleached her red hair blonde for the role. Howard is also currently working on writing a script for a short film, which she also plans to direct. YUDDY |
