The son of one of England and Northern Ireland’s most famous footballers from the 1970‘s, George Best, this man has traded off that fame and found his way to Hollywood in an attempt to gain fame and recognition both as a model and a TV personality.

Calum Best was born to George Best and Angela Macdonald-James on 6th February 1981 in San Jose, California and was raised in the United Kingdom. When he was in his teens Best drew the attention of Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson who went to see him play football but after offering a try out for Manchester United, Best declined for fear of being compared to the talent of his father, George. Calum chose modeling as his preferred career.

Calum’s father George had played for Manchester United for most of his career but his life long friend was Milan Mandarić, and so it was fitting that Calum was given the middle name Milan in recognition of his father’s association with Mandarić.

With his constant search for fame Calum is frequently featured in the celebrity magazines and tabloids in the UK being photographed alongside the movie stars and famous figures in Hollywood.

Best’s life, much like his father’s has been peppered with problems and troubles. In December 2006 UK model Lorna Hogan gave birth to a daughter, Ameilia Lucie fathered by Calum as the result of a one night stand.

Following the death of his father George, after years of alcohol abuse, it was revealed that when all the debts had been cleared there was only one item left to Calum in the will was his father’s watch. Any money that George had amassed was left to Calum’s aunt, Barbara NcNarry.

Best’s reputation as a playboy has spread far and wide with reports and photographs in British tabloids of Best having sex with two female prostitutes in a London hotel. The photos also showed the group snorting cocaine with the girls.

In January 2007 Best had a brief relationship with Lindsay Lohan and since they broke up the couple have attempted a couple of reconciliations.

His cousin is the actress Samantha Janus.

In 2005, Best was named Company magazine's Bachelor of the year and he has also played himself in the last ever episode of UK ITV cult drama series Footballers' Wives.

In yet another bid to find recognition, in late 2006, Best launched a limited edition men's cologne called "Calum", but by January 2008 the Daily Star reported that London's largest homeless charity, St. Mungo's, was overwhelmed with donations of Best's signature aftershave, apparently from citizens who received it as an unwanted Christmas gift.

Calum has made a bid at stardom on several occasions with little success but in June 2008 MTV announced their new venture Totally Calum Best: The Best is Yet to Come in which Best had to go without sex for 50 days and 49 nights, starting on the 17th June 2008.

His friends, among whom he counts a UK friend, Jamie Randall and Cher, will set up honeytraps to try and tempt him to stray. He will undergo lie detector tests at the end of each week. Best has also stressed that he wants to use the programme to portray himself in a new light and to attempt to get his acting career off the ground without any 'distractions'.
