Chris Brown Biography Known by some as the best new R&B artist of 2006, up and comer Chris Brown is trying to prove that he has staying power in the music industry and in the meantime is becoming the heartthrob of teenage girls everywhere. His debut album has sold three million units worldwide. Christopher Maurice Brown was born on May 5, 1989, in the tiny town of Tappahannock, Virginia, to Clinton Brown and Joyce Hawkins. He developed his ear and talent for music at an early age when his parents would play the radio at home. His early influences were Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Sam Cooke. At the age of eleven, Brown began singing along with some of his girl friends to Usher albums, and began developing his vocal range. He was discovered by local producers while he was working at his father’s gas station at the age of thirteen. From there his career took off.
His original managers got him an audition with the Vice President of Def Jam records, Tina Davis, who is currently Brown’s manager. Davis then arranged for Brown to perform for L.A. Reid who signed him on in 2004 when Brown was just fifteen years old. Less than a year later he signed a contract with Jive Records and began work on his debut album. Brown worked with an all-star team on his album including Bow Wow, Jermaine Dupri, Scott Storch, and Bryan Cox. Together, they recorded over fifty tracks and then whittled it down to thirteen for the album. Brown released his first single “Run It!” in mid-2005. The single was produced by Scott Storch and eventually made it to #1 on the pop charts in the United States. His album was released on November 29, 2005, debuting at #2 on the charts. In the first week, his album sold over 155,000 copies. He is currently working on his second album, which will hopefully be released in 2007. Chris released his first DVD in June of 2006 called Chris Brown’s Journey. The DVD gives a behind-the-scenes look at the making of his album, early tours in the United States and Japan, dance rehearsals, bloopers, and more. Brown began making the transition into the acting world. He made a single appearance on the show One on One, which aired on UPN. He also developed a recurring role on Fox’s hit show, The O.C. Brown made his film debut in Stomp the Yard, which was released in 2007. The film also starred Ne-Yo, Meagan Good, and Lil’ Fizz.
In early 2008 Chris was linked romantically to singer Rihanna although the pair fervently denied the rumours eventually they admitted their relationship after photos leaked on to the Internet of the two together while they were swimming together and definately doing a little snuggling up! But the happiness was to be short lived when in the following year Rihanna found herself the victim of domestic violence at the hands of Brown. As the couple sat in Brown’s car following a pre-Grammy award party, Brown became enraged at Rihanna questioning him about a text message he had received on his cell phone and began punching her face. Unable to release herself from her seat belt Rihanna took the full brunt of his fists which left her badly cut and bruised. Three weeks later Brown was arraigned, by which time Rihanna had recovered from her injuries and had also, against the wishes of Oprah Winfrey, returned to her attacker.
