Chris Klein Bio

Chris KleinAmerican Pie actor Chris Klein was born on March 14, 1979, in Hinsdale, Illinois. When he was a teenager, Chris’ family moved to Omaha, Nebraska. There, Chris became involved in sports and played quarterback and linebacker for his high school football team. He also became involved in theater, playing Tony in his high school’s production of West Side Story. Chris was voted most likely to become famous in his school, and also crowned Mr. Millard West in his school’s 1995 male pageant.
Chris didn’t even have to leave high school to get his big break in show business. When director Alexander Payne was scouting Millard West High as a possible location to film the movie Election in 1999, he hired Klein on as part of the cast. Chris played Paul Meltzer, an equally soft-headed and soft-hearted football player persuaded to run against Tracy Flick, played by Reese Witherspoon, in the school's student council election. Next, Chris appeared in the teen comedy American Pie in 1999, for which he received a nomination at the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards for Most Promising Actor in 2000. Klein also appeared in the film’s sequel, American Pie 2 in 2001, but was not asked to appear in the most recent installment, American Wedding in 2003. According to the film’s writer, Adam Herz, there was not enough for Chris to do in the film. Klein was also unable to make a cameo appearance, as he was filming in London at the time.
During Christmas of 2003, Chris and long-term girlfriend Katie Holmes became engaged at her family's home in Ohio. Chris asked Katie’s father for his daughter’s hand in marriage beforehand. The couple called it quits in 2005. Shortly after, Katie became engaged to Tom Cruise and a media frenzy ensued. After coupling up with Tom, Katie reportedly claimed to still be in regular contact with her ex, however Chris disputed this fact in a November 2005 interview with Details magazine. Klein’s personal life continued to receive media attention in 2005 when he was arrested while driving in San Diego, California with a blood alcohol level of 0.20 – more than twice California’s legal driving level. He was charged with two misdemeanors and faced a potential jail sentence of six months per misdemeanor if convicted.
In 2002, Chris appeared on WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) programming alongside rapper LL Cool J to promote Rollerball, a film in which the two co-starred along with several other WWE Superstars. Ashton Kutcher later mocked Chris’ Rollerball performance on an episode of his celebrity prank show, Punk'd.
During a 2005 interview on the The Ellen DeGeneres Show to promote his film Just Friends, Chris made several controversial comments which portrayed him as a male chauvinist. He explained, "I don't need food to impress, man. It's a flash of a smile and a nice conversation. And at the end of the day, she's cooking the food." On the topic of a significant other gaining weight, he declared, "I'm not tolerant of that at all... when a woman isn't feeling good about herself and you combine that with her period, eventually she'll ask you if you like her body. You have to say no." YUDDY |
