Chris Noth is an actor who has proven his versatility in a wide range of roles on stage and on screen. Tall, with charismatic good looks, Noth is best known for his part in Sex And the City. He's the urbane Mr. Big, playing opposite Sarah Jessica Parker as his sometimes girlfriend Carrie Bradshaw. The hit show also featured Carrie’s buddies Samantha (Kim Cattrall), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). Chris was nominated for the Best Actor award at the Golden Globes for his part.
Born in Wisconsin in 1954, Chris Noth graduated from Yale School of Drama, having studied under Sanford Meisner, the well-respected actor and teacher. His subsequent stage appearances were impressive, and he returned to the stage in 2001 when he had a role on Broadway in The Best Man, written by Gore Vidal and also starring Charles Durning and Michael Learned.
Appearing in front of the camera is in his blood, as Chris Noth’s Mother, Jeanne Parr, used to report the news for CBS. TV and film roles forged his career. Before Sex And The City, he was in another successful series, Law and Order from 1990 to 1995, as Detective Mike Logan, along with Sam Waterston, Benjamin Bratt, and George Dzundzal. In 2002 Chris starred as Pompey, the Roman General in a television mini-series Caesar. His co-stars were the late Richard Harris and Christopher Walken.
Film parts for Chris Noth have included both mainstream and independent productions. He had a minor role in the Tom Hanks vehicle Cast Away, when he played Helen Hunt’s husband. He also appeared in Double Whammy with Denis Leary, Elizabeth Hurley, and Steve Buscemi. Independent film roles have included Getting To Know You with Bebe Neuwerth, A Texas Funeral with Martin Sheen and Pigeon Holed starring Rosanna Arquette.
Chris Noth’s future looks assured; he is an accomplished actor and is a hit with the ladies, thanks largely to his stint as Mr. Big. He’s also shown courage in stepping out of the cushioned world of TV to go back on stage in front of live audiences. His resume also includes producer on TV films and he wrote the story for a special television movie version of Law And Order in 1998. Just like Mr. Big, he is unmarried and lives in New York. In keeping with his sophisticated image, he even co-owns a nightclub.
