Chris Robinson

Black Crows crooner Chris Robinson was born on December 20, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia. In his late teens, Robinson and his brother, Rich, formed the band Mr. Crowes Garden, playing at clubs in the Atlanta area. At this time, Rich wrote a song that would later become the band’s biggest hit, “She Talks to Angels.”

In 1989, Mr. Crowes Garden recorded a demo tape with Robinson as the lead singer. They were then signed on to the record label American Recordings, which tried to convince the band to change their name to the Kobb Kounty Krows. They eventually conceded with a more simplified version: the Black Crowes.

In 1990 the Black Crowes released their first studio album, Shake Your Money Maker. The debut album went on to sell millions of copies and was certified 5X platinum. In 1992 the band released their second album, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion; followed by Amorica in 1994; and Three Snakes & One Charm in 1996. Several albums and band members later, in 2000 The Black Crowes were a critically-acclaimed group of rockers, playing gigs alongside legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist, Jimmy Page.

In 2000, Robinson began dating Kate Hudson, daughter of actress Goldie Hawn and step-daughter of Kurt Russell. That same year, the couple was married; and four years later, they welcomed the birth of their son, Ryder Russell Robinson.

In 2002 Robinson’s first solo single, “The Red Road,” was featured on the soundtrack to his step-mother, Goldie Hawn’s film The Banger Sisters, which co-starred Susan Sarandon. Robinson’s solo debut album, New Earth Mud, was released later that year to critical reviews; and spawned Robinson’s new touring band, New Earth Mud, which included ex-Crowes members. In 2005, the Black Crowes reunited for a tour of the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

During a 2005 interview with Access Hollywood, Kate Hudson discussed the challenges of remaining monogamous within a marriage, and indicated that if her husband had been unfaithful to her, she would prefer not to know. In 2006, Hudson's publicist announced that Hudson and Robinson had separated; and within a few months, Robinson filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. The couple’s split was widely-speculated to have been caused by a relationship between Hudson and her You, Me, and Dupree co-star, Owen Wilson, who were seen vacationing together following Hudson’s split from Robinson.

Prior to his marriage to Kate Hudson, Robinson was married from 1996 to 1998 to actress-turned-costumer, Lala Sloatman; niece of Frank Zappa and cousin of Diva, Dweezil, and Moon Unit Zappa.
