Christina Aguilera Biography Christina Aguilera has evolved from a former Mouseketeer and pop princess, into a respected and admired performer who is rising above the majority of her contemporaries. Christina Maria Aguilera was born on December 18, 1980, in Staten Island, New York. Her parents divorced when she was young and she moved with her mom and sister to the suburbs of Pittsburgh where they lived with her grandmother. Aguilera was known as a performer in her neighborhood, and at a very young age she sang the National Anthem at Steelers and Pirates football games. At age eight Christina was a contestant on Star Search, but she did not win.
Her first big break came when she was made a Mouseketeer on The New Mickey Mouse Club in 1993. She performed with a group of kids who would also make names for themselves, including Britney Spears, 'N Sync’s Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez, Keri Russell, and Ryan Gosling. When The New Mickey Mouse Club ended, Aguilera pursued a career as a solo singer.
The timing was perfect. The popularity of boy bands was on the rise and several solo female teenage artists were also beginning to emerge. Her former Mouseketeer co-star Britney Spears was tearing up the charts with "Baby One More Time," and other contemporaries, such as Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson, were gaining popularity as well. In 1999, Christina Aguilera scored her first hit with the song "Genie in a Bottle."
The press spent a lot of time focusing on Christina Aguilera and her supposed competition with other singers, although she firmly denied there were any feuds. She was particularly often pitted against Britney Spears and it was frequently reported that they disliked each other immensely. This conjecture only magnified in 2003 when Christina Aguilera went on tour with Spears’s famous ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake. Rumors of a relationship between Aguilera and Timberlake flew, but they were never confirmed.
She did however, have a three year relationship with Jorge Santos, a backup dancer. When that ended, she began to date Jordan Bratman, a music executive. They got engaged in early 2005 and were married in November of that same year at a vineyard in Napa Valley.
While the music careers of many of Christina Aguilera’s contemporaries has faltered or became jokes, hers has only grown stronger through the years. She has had six #1 singles. Of the three studio albums she has released, two of them have been #1. The most recent, Back to Basics, hit #1 the week it was released in April of 2006. She has also released an album of Christmas music and re-recorded her debut album into Spanish.
In 2006 Christina Aguilera spent time promoting her album, as well spending quite a bit of time gracing the covers of magazines and in the summer of 2006 she was featured on the covers of both Seventeen and Allure. In September 2007, Paris Hilton revealed that the Aguilera was pregnant, saying, "Congratulations to the most beautiful pregnant woman in the world." In November 2007, Aguilera officially confirmed her pregnancy in an interview with Glamour magazine and the speculation is that she is having a baby boy. On January 12th, 2008 Aguilera gave birth to a son, Max Liron Bratman, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, the same day as Nicole Richie and Joel Madden were welcoming their first child in the same hospital.
