Christopher LambertChristopher Lambert got his start with roles in French films, but he got his big break in American films in 1984 when he starred as Tarzan in the movie Greystoke - The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes with Andie MacDowell. However, the role that Lambert is best known for his that of Connor MacLeod in 1986's Highlander and its two sequels.
He was born on Long Island, New York, but by the age of two Christophe Guy Denis Lambert was living in Europe with his parents. His father was a UN Diplomat and he grew up in Switzerland. He caught the acting bug at age twelve when he appeared in a play and studied at the Paris Conservatoire for a while before earning roles in films.
The accents he was exposed to during his years in Europe certainly helped prepare him for his role as Connor MacLeod, a Highlander born in the 1500s who is one of an immortal race. Christopher Lambert starred in the film with Sean Connery, and the movie Highlander became a cult classic and spurred two sequels.
His roles in The Legend of Tarzan and Highlander made Christopher Lambert a fantasy/action star. Although most of films have been in this genre, Lambert has diverged from it from time to time. It was while filming one of these diversions, Love Dream, where he met his first wife, actress Diane Lane. The two were married in 1988 and have one daughter Eleanor Jasmine who was born in 1994. The couple divorced in 1995. In addition to Love Dream, they made one other film together during their marriage, Knight Moves in 1992.
After his divorce, Lambert began dating Italian actress Alba Parietti although the romance did not last long. In 1999, Christopher Lambert married actress Jaimyse Haft and the two are still together. At some point, probably before his marriage to Diane Lane, he was romantically linked to Princess Stephanie of Monaco, the daughter of actress Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier.
Christopher Lambert has worked steadily since the 1980s and some of his other films include Loaded Weapon 1 in 1993, with Emilio Estevez and Samuel L Jackson; The Road Killers in 1994, with Josh Brolin (who, by the way, is now married to Diane Lane); Mortal Kombat in 1995; The Point Men in 2001; and Absolon in 2003. He has also starred in many French films.
Recently, Christopher Lambert filmed the independent Southland Tales, which was a hit at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival. The film also stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, The Rock, and Kevin Smith, and will be released by Sony sometime in the future. He will also reprise his role from Mortal Kombat in 2007 with Mortal Kombat: Devastation. YUDDY |
