Clint Eastwood Bio

Clint Eastwood Biography

Film forefather Clint Eastwood was born on May 31, 1930, in San Francisco, California . While attending Oakland Technical High School, Eastwood decided he did not enjoy acting after being given a part in a school play. After working as a logger, gas-station attendant, and eventually being discharged from the U.S. Army in 1953, Eastwood moved to Southern California, where he studied drama and business administration at Los Angeles City College. He eventually began landing small roles in various Universal films as well as a role on the television series Rawhide.

It was Eastwood’s work in three western films that began getting his wild, wild work noticed in Hollywood: A Fistful of Dollars in 1964, For a Few Dollars More in 1965, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in 1966. Eastwood also founded his own production company, Malpaso, which made the western film Hang 'Em High in 1968. He continued to act throughout the 70s, namely in Dirty Harry films, and worked on stretching his originally-limited dramatic range and strained style.

By 1993, Eastwood’s directorial skills were recognized with a Best Director Oscar for Unforgiven (1992). In 1995, Eastwood directed, produced, and starred in an adaptation of the best-selling novel The Bridges of Madison County, alongside Meryl Streep. He continued donning several hats for the remainder of the 90s, producing and directing an adaptation of John Berendt's Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil in 1997, Absolute Power in 1997, True Crime in 1999, and Space Cowboys in 2000. In 2003, Eastwood assembled a star-studded cast including Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, and Kevin Bacon to make Mystic River , which some critics and audiences hailed as his finest work. His 2004 follow-up, Million Dollar Baby, starring Hilary Swank and Morgan Freeman was recognized with four Oscars at the 77th Annual Academy Awards.

In 2006, Eastwood directed two features chronicling the Battle of Iwo Jima from their respective different angles. The English-language Flags of Our Fathers, starring Ryan Phillippe, tells the American perspective; the Japanese-language Red Sun, Black Sand depicts the Japanese perspective.

In the tradition of other actor-turned-politicians such as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sonny Bono, from 1986 until 1988 Eastwood served as the Mayor of Carmel, California.

The multi-talented actor/director/producer/politician is also musically inclined – Eastwood is a prolific jazz pianist, and occasionally treats patrons of his Carmel, California, restaurant The Hog's Breath Inn to a performance. He has also contributed songs and scores to his films, including The Bridges of Madison County and Mystic River.

Eastwood has been married twice, and has five daughters and two sons with five different women: daughter Kimber, born in 1964, with Roxanne Tunis; son Kyle, born in 1968, and daughter Alison, born on May 22, 1972, with ex-wife Maggie Johnson; son Scott, born on March 21, 1986, and daughter Kathryn, born February 2, 1988, with Jacelyn Reeves; daughter Francesca Ruth, born on August 7, 1993, with Unforgiven co-star, Frances Fisher; and son Morgan, born on December 12, 1996, with current wife, Dina Ruiz.

In early 2009 Clint directed and appeared in Gran Torino a movie that saw him playing a grumpy old man living in a previously prodominently white Amercian community and having to come to terms with not only losing his wife but integrating with other nationalities. Conflicting with local gangs Eastwood finally gives up his life to ensure the conviction of 6 rapists.
