Colin Farrell Bio

Colin Farrell

Irish actor Colin Farrell has gained a reputation as a hellraiser and a womanizer, and has been attached to a variety of actresses and models. Along the way he has also gained respect as an accomplished actor, not to mention an attractive one, with moody and dark good looks. Born near Dublin in 1976, the son of Irish professional soccer player Eamon Farrell, Colin Farrell attended drama school there and landed a role in the BBC TV series, Ballykissangel, set in an Irish village.

Film roles soon followed for Colin Farrell and he quickly became a Hollywood favorite. He starred in the first film to be directed by Tim Roth, The War Zone, in 1999. Farrell really started to get attention when he appeared in Tigerland the following year, directed by Joel Schumacher. This was followed by a part in American Outlaws as Jesse James, and a role opposite Bruce Willis in Hart’s War. The good roles continued to flow, as in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of the Philip K Dick short story, Minority Report, starring Tom Cruise, and Phone Booth, in which Colin was the star, again directed by Joel Schumacher.

Colin Farrell cites his major influence as Al Pacino and he got to act with his hero and become friends in 2003 in The Recruit. Pacino was his idol as he was growing up. It could all have turned out very differently if he’d passed the audition he went to, to be in Irish Boyband, Boyzone! Fortunately for Hollywood, they turned him down.

Colin Farrell is a very prolific actor and the film roles keep coming. The year 2004 saw the much waited release of Alexander, with Colin in the title role and directed by Oliver Stone. Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie also starred. Unfortunately, it was not well received by the critics and was disappointing at the box office. In 2006, another old TV series was re-made into a movie. This time, it was the turn of Miami Vice, directed by Michael Mann, with Colin playing the part of Sonny Crockett, (played on TV by Don Johnson), opposite Jamie Foxx playing Ricardo Tubbs (played on TV by Philip Michael Thomas).

Colin Farrell has been married the one time, in a very short-lived marriage to English actress Amelia Warner, whose film roles include Quills. Her mother is actress Annette Ekblom. Another relationship, with former girlfriend Kim Bordenave, a not well known model at the time, produced a son named James, in 2003.
