Crispin Glover Bio

Crispin Glover Biography

American actor Crispin Glover has received his greatest exposure with commercial films such as Back to the Future and Charlie’s Angels. He has made a name for himself, however, by continually taking surreal, edge, and dark roles, exemplified by films such as River’s Edge and Willard.

Crispin Hellion Glover was born April 20, 1964 in New York City, New York. From the age of five onward, however, he was raised in Los Angeles, California. Born to literature and theater loving parents, Glover is named after William Shakespeare’s Henry V “Saint Crispin’s Day” speech. His mother was Marie Elizabeth Lillian Betty Krachey Bloom, while his father was Bruce Glover. Both were actors in their own right.

Displaying a deep intelligence, Glover obtained his initial education from the gifted institution, The Mirman School. He followed with Venice High and Beverly Hills High School.

While attending school, Glover simultaneously pursued his acting. To that end, he made his onscreen debut in 1981 with Best of Times. He appeared beside Nicolas Cage.

After steady work in film and television, Glover earned a notable role in the horror classic Friday the 13th: the Final Chapter. Stars included Kimberly Beck, Corey Feldman, Camilla More, and Judie Aronson.

Known today for his quirky onscreen personalities, his first major role in this mold came in 1985 with The Orkly Kid from director Trent Harris. Elizabeth Daily and Kristen Johnston provided minor roles.

1985 also brought the role that introduced him to a large and commercial audience. In this year, he played George McFly in Robert ZemeckisBack to the Future. Michael J Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, and Thomas F Wilson were also made stars with the wildly successful sci-fi comedy.

Glover found more success in 1986 with a starring role in Tim Hunter’s River’s Edge. Playing Layne, Glover shared the screen with Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, and Dennis Hopper in this well received crime drama.

Landing a variety of gigs, Glover repeatedly proved he had a knack for working with some of the best in Hollywood. He proved this again in 1991 when he played Andy Warhol in The Doors from director Oliver Stone. The all-star cast included Michael Madsen, Kyle MacLachlan, Meg Ryan, Kevin Dillon, and Val Kilmer.

In 1993, Glover found himself drawn to the adaptation of Tom Robbin’s surrealist novel Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. Directed by Gus Van Sant, the film also attracted Uma Thurman, Pat Morita, Angie Dickinson, John Hurt, Sean Young, and others.

Glover’s arguably largest exposure came in 2000 with Charlie’s Angels. He played the lineless “Creepy Thin Man” opposite Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and many others.

He continued in this brooding, creepy vein with the starring role in Willard, which portrayed a man and his inexplicable connection to rats.

His most recent work was Beowulf with Robin Wright Penn, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Ray Winstone, and Angelina Jolie.

Outside of acting, Glover also released an album in 1989. It was entitled The Big Problem Does Not Equal the Solution, The Solution Equals Let It Be. He has also written several books, his most recent being Rat Catching in 1999.

Others know him for his time as a director on the films What is It? and It is Fine. Everything is Fine!

In his personal life, Glover has been romantically linked to Jessicka, Courtney Peldon, and Alexa Lauren.
