Danielle Spencer Bio

Danielle Spencer Biography

Australian actress and musician Danielle Spencer received her first major exposure through a series of small roles in little known television programs and films. She is most known, however, for her music career, which includes a well received debut album. Spencer has also made significant headlines for her longtime relationship with one of Hollywood’s hottest and most celebrated actors.

Danielle Spencer was born May 16, 1970 in England. However, she considers herself Australian. Her father was Don Spencer, a television presenter in Australia.

First exploring her acting, Spencer made her onstage debut in the musical Rasputin. Based in Sydney, the play also starred then boyfriend Terry Serio.

Transitioning into television, she made her onscreen debut in 1989 with a one-episode appearance on Mission Impossible. She shared the screen with Jane Badler and Phil Morris. She followed with several episodes on The Flying Doctors.

Her first film work came just one year later with George Ogilvie’s The Crossing followed almost immediately by What the Moon Saw.

In 1991, she was featured in the television film Mission: Top Secret, but it was her recurring role on Hampton Court that was her first real introduction to audiences. Playing Lisa, Spencer was with the program for its one season run. She co-starred with Julie McGregor, Adam Willits, and Roy Billing.

For the next decade, Spencer appeared sporadically in a number of programs. These included but were not limited to Home and Away, Pacific Drive, and All Saints with Georgie Parker and Martin Lynes.

Others may also recognize Spencer for her work in the 1999 drama Game Room opposite Virginia Hey and Patrick Rees.

Spencer, however, always viewed her acting as a means to raise money for her real passion. To that end, Spencer translated the funds from her acting gigs into her debut solo album, White Monkey.

Hitting the shelves in 2001, it was met with positive reviews and comparisons to the likes of Portishead, Madonna, Kate Bush, Tori Amos, and others. Still, the album did not reach high levels of commercial success.

After a sizable hiatus, her second album, Back at the Red Door, finally came together.

In her personal life, she is noted for her marriage to Russell Crowe, whom she met in 1990 while filming The Crossing. Entering into a rocky thirteen year relationship, the couple was frequently on again and off again.

They finally decided to settle down more definitely in 2002, when they announced their engagement. They married on April 7, 2003, and they welcomed their first child, Charles Spencer Crowe, on December 21, 2003. On July 7, 2006, they had their second child, Tennyson Spencer Crowe.

They are currently still together.
