Danny Pino Biography

American actor Danny Pino broke onto the acting scene in a big way in 2003. In that year, he starred in Lucy, landed a recurring role on The Shield, and scored a lead role in the very popular television series Cold Case. He remains most known for his long-running role on Cold Case.

Daniel Pino was born April 15, 1974 in Miami, Florida. He is of Cuban heritage.

Obtaining his education from Florida International University, Pino graduated in 1996. While there, he was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Deciding he wanted to enter the world of acting, Pino made his onscreen debut in 2001 with Men, Women & Dogs. Mike Damus starred.

After two years of no work whatsoever, Pino landed a recurring role on The Shield. A part of the popular drama for four episodes in 2003, he portrayed Armadillo Quintero.

Receiving a great deal of attention for this hard-edged role, Pino was asked to play a gang leader known for burning his victims alive and using rape as a way to keep his opponents in line. Playing this most reprehensible of roles, Pino shared the screen with series regulars Michael Chiklis and Catherine Dent.

Increasing his notoriety in late 2003, Pino took the role of Desi Arnaz in the biopic Lucy. Title character Lucille Ball was portrayed by Rachel York.

When shooting wrapped for the film, Pino immediately auditioned for a role in the new crime drama Cold Case. Winning the role of Scotty Valens, Pino became a popular staple in the well-received series. The other leads were assigned to Kathryn Morris, John Finn, Jeremy Ratchford, and Thom Barry. Tracie Thomas joined the cast in 2005.

Working around his hectic filming schedule for the series, Pino still found time to dabble in film. To that end, he appeared in 2004’s NYPD 2069.

He followed with the drama thriller Between opposite Poppy Montgomery and Adam Kaufman.

In 2005, Pino also agreed to take part in Rx. Despite a strong cast, which included Alan Tudyk, Eric Balfour, Colin Hanks, and Lauren German, the film was only met with mediocre reviews.

Bouncing back with The Lost City, Pino had a winner in the Andy Garcia directed project. Garcia’s star power also attracted actors such as Bill Murray, Dustin Hoffman, and Nestor Carbonell to the film.

2006 rounded out Pino’s film career with an appearance in the family film Flicka. He played Jack with leads by Tim McGraw, Maria Bello, and Alison Lohman.

Keeping busy, Pino continues his work with Cold Case. He has also completed filming on The Burning Plain, and he is in post-production for Across the Hall. Although cast members are liable to change before the official release, he is slated to work with Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger in the first project and Mike Vogel and Brittany Murphy on the latter.

In his personal life, Pino married Lily Pino in 2002. They welcomed their first child in 2006 and their second in mid-2007.
