Actor David Arquette was born on September 8, 1971, in Winchester, Virginia. He hails from a family of entertainers, including siblings Patricia, Rosanna, Alexis, and Richmond, who are all actors; as well as grandfather, Cliff Arquette, who was a regular on the original Hollywood Squares. Growing up in California, David and his family lived on a commune, eventually moving to Los Angeles so that sister, Rosanna could pursue her career in acting. Growing up, David’s dad referred to him as "David Duck" while his sister Patricia called him "little one."
David’s interest in acting was first piqued when he was offered money to appear in a school play. After discovering that there would not really be monetary compensation for the play and this was only a prank from his classmates, David’s reaction was of such stunned disappointment that his teacher handed him a check. (After his career in acting took off, David returned to the school to pay back his teacher.)
David first appeared on the small screen in 1989, in a television adaptation of the cult-classic film The Outsiders (1983). His film debut came in 1992, when he starred in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which was eventually turned into a popular television series in the late 90s. He subsequently starred in Where the Day Takes You, and Airheads in 1994, but gained an even higher profile when he starred as "Dwight 'Dewey' Riley" in Wes Craven's Scream in 1996, alongside Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, and Courteney Cox. He also starred in Scream 2 in 1997 and Scream 3 in 2000. In 1999, Arquette starred in five films, including the Drew Barrymore romantic comedy Never Been Kissed, Muppets From Space, Ravenous, The Hughleys, and The Runner. In 2002, Arquette starred in Eight Legged Freaks. The film was originally titled "Arac Attack" until Arquette screamed out the improvised title on-set, which the director and producers preferred over the original.
In addition to acting, Arquette has also been involved with professional wrestling. In 2000 he won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in an effort to promote his wrestling film which debuted that year, Ready to Rumble. Although he himself was a wrestling fan, Arquette reportedly disliked the marketing stunt but was convinced to do it by head booker, Vince Russo. Arquette ended up donating all of his WCW salary to the families of the late Brian Pillman, Owen Hart, and Brian Hildebrand, as well as wrestler Droz, who suffered a wrestling injury which ended his career.
In 1999, Arquette married Scream trilogy co-star, Courteney Cox. In 2004, the couple welcomed the birth of daughter, Coco Riley, whose godmother is Courteney’s Friends co-star, Jennifer Aniston. The private parents attempted to shield their daughter from the scrutiny of the paparazzi, threatening legal action against anyone who published photographs of Coco after one had already been leaked to the media.
In 2004, David and Courteney formed Los Angeles-based production company, Coquette Productions. They are also both currently executive producers for the TBS series, Daisy Does America, and also served as executive producers for Mix it Up in 2003, a home-make over series for the WE: Women's Entertainment channel. The show attempted to advise people moving in together on how to reconcile their different decoration tastes – a challenge that Courteney faced as a newlywed when dealing with Arquette’s collection of bobbleheads and Russian nesting dolls.
