David Eigenberg Biography

American actor David Eigenberg has been appearing in film and television roles since the late 80s. During his time onscreen, Eigenberg remains best known for his role as Steve Brady in the television series Sex and the City and its cinematic sequel.

David Eigenberg was born May 17, 1964 in Long Island, New York. He was subsequently raised in Naperville, Illinois. His parents are Beverly Eigenberg and Harry Eigenberg, a preschool owner and accountant respectively. The Eigenberg family also consists of siblings Helen Eigenberg and Betsy Eigenberg.

On the education front, Eigenberg attended Naperville Central High School where he was an avid football player. He was led by quarterback Sean Payton. (Payton is best known now as the coach of the NFL team the New Orleans Saints.)

Directly out of high school, Eigenberg decided to enter the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He was with this institution from 1982 to 1986. Achieving the rank of Lance Corporal, Eigenberg was Honorably Discharged at the end of his service.

Always interested in acting, Eigenberg made his onstage debut at twelve years old. He appeared in Happy Birthday Wanda June, an adaptation from novelist Kurt Vonnegut.

Taking his love of acting to the professional level, Eigenberg’s first onscreen role came in 1989. He appeared in the film Rude Awakening with Cheech Marin, Eric Roberts, and others.

The 90s, however, were marked for Eigenberg by bit parts in film and small roles on television series.

But 1999 would change everything. In that year, the role of Steve Brady on the popular HBO series Sex and the City opened to auditions. Landing the role, Eigenberg regularly shared the screen with Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, Kim Cattrall, and Cynthia Nixon.

Eigenberg stayed with the wildly successful show until its conclusion in 2004.

With his newfound notoriety, Eigenberg was able to land high profile roles in big budget films. This included 2002’s Mothman Prophecies. In the sci-fi thriller, Eigenberg appeared with Richard Gere, Laura Linney, and Debra Messing.

Switching gears, he also lent his voice work to the 2004 family-oriented film Garfield. Voicing Nermal, the film also starred Breckin Meyer, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Bill Murray (as the voice of Garfield).

Most recently, Eigenberg appeared in the provocative comedy/drama The Trouble with Romance. Costars included Jordan Belfi, John Churchill, Josie Davis, Portia Dawson, Roger Fan, and others.

Reprising his role from the series that made him a star, Eigenberg once again played Steve Brady in the 2008 film version of Sex and the City. Based on the book by Candace Bushnell and directed by Michael Patrick King, Eigenberg was reunited with former cast members Chris Noth, Candice Bergen, and Evan Handler. Former American Idol darling Jennifer Hudson was the newest addition to the cast.

Keeping busy, Eigenberg has also completed the romance See You in September.

In his personal life, Eigenberg married Chrysti Eigenberg, and they are currently still together.
