David Spade Blond-haired American actor, comedian, and producer David Wayne Spade, is known for his razor sharp sarcasm. He has appeared in numerous movies, television shows, and commercials since 1987. Spade was born on July 22, 1965, in Birmingham, Michigan, to Wayne Spade and Judy Todd as the youngest of three sons. His father abandoned the family shortly after he moved his family to Scottsdale, Arizona. Spade’s mother eventually remarried a war veteran who later committed suicide in 1981.
Spade graduated from Saguaro High School in Scottsdale when he was seventeen years old and he went on to study at the Arizona State University (ASU) where he graduated with a degree in business in 1986.
While at the university, Spade began acting with the university’s long-standing improvisational comedy group, and is said to have been an early leader of the group. The group did free Friday lunchtime performances called Farce Side Comedy Hour from 1985 to 2005.
In 1987 Spade landed his first movie part as Kyle in Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol. The following year he made his debut into television with the cameo role of Scott on The Facts of Life.
A few other minor television parts followed, but Spade didn’t gain wide recognition until 1990 when he joined Saturday Night Live, thanks to the help of friend and fellow comedian, Dennis Miller. He soon established a reputation as a sarcastic, smart aleck character in a number of skits. He also made sarcastic jokes about celebrities and celebrity impersonations.
While on Saturday Night Live Spade received a tattoo of Calvin and Hobbes on his left bicep from actor Sean Penn.
Also while at SNL, Spade starred in two feature films with his visual opposite, SNL co-hort and best friend Chris Farley in 1995's Tommy Boy and 1996's Black Sheep. When Farley died of a drug overdose in 1997 at the age of thirty-three, Spade couldn’t bring himself to go to Farley’s funeral because "he could not be in a room where Chris was in a box."
Spade quit SNL in 1996 citing burnout as the reason saying the set "is a tough place" and that "you can’t stay here forever – it kills you inside." He returned to host an episode in 1998 and again in 2005.
From 1997 to 2003, Spade played sarcastic Dennis Finch on TV’s Just Shoot Me, a show focused around publishing a fashion magazine. In the show, Finch dates a supermodel, played by Rebecca Romijn. The rest of the cast of characters include Geirge Segal as publisher, Lauran San Giacamo, as the publisher's daughter, former model Wendie Malick, and Enrico Colantoni who plays the photographer.
In 2000, he took on the lead vocal in Disney’s animated movie The Emperor’s New Groove with John Goodman.
After the demise of Just Shoot Me, Spade took on the role of CJ Barnes in 2003 on the TV sitcom 8 Simple Rules, starring John Ritter (who died during the run of the show) and Katey Segal of Married… with Children fame.
In 2003 he hosted the Teen Choice Awards and SpikeTV’s Video Game Awards. On September 5 of that year he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Spade has a couple of health issues including a hyper-sensitivity to light and hyperglycemia. In 2000 he was robbed by stun gun by former personal assistant, David "Skippy" Malloy.
Spade is currently a bachelor who has been romantically linked to Lara Flynn Boyle, Kristy Swanson, Julie Bowen, and Krista Allen. YUDDY |
