Deborah ‘Debbie’ Gibson was born in Long Island, New York on August 31^st 1970. At the age of five Debbie had already made up her mind that she wanted a career in show business and she began writing lyrics with the encouragement of both her three sisters, Denise, Karen and Michele and her parents Joe and Diane.Debbie found an outlet for her talent at the stage of the Community Theater and soon found herself performing in the chorus at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City.

Debbie spent many months visiting record companies leaving them copies of her demo tapes in an effort to break through into the recording business until finally at the age of 16 a record producer noticed her at Atlantic Records and signed her up as an artist.Debbie’s debut album in 1987 was ‘Out of the Blue’ which spawned two singles making Debbie the youngest performer to ever have written, produced and performed on a number one single.

Gibson quickly followed this success with another album in 1989 ‘Electric Youth’ and the single from the album, ‘Lost in Your Eyes’ earned Debbie the New York Music Award for Song of the Year in 1990’ and she also shared ASCAP Songwriter of the Year Award 1989 with Bruce Springsteen.

Much to her disapproval, Debbie was often confused with her contemporary, Tiffany as their careers had similarities but Gibson was the one who actually had the talent which she demonstrated by writing most of her own songs, even arranging and engineering the recordings, and singing on key without excessive audio "tweaking".

With an all encompassing career Debbie turned her hand to the stage when she appeared as both Sandy and Rizzo in ‘Grease’ on Broadway in 1992. During her time on Broadway she also released two more albums, ‘Body, Mind Soul’ in 1993 and ‘Think with your Heart’ in 1995 along with a greatest hits album and in 1997 her self titled album ‘Deborah’ was released.

Broadway once again beckoned when Debbie landed the role of Belle in ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and Gypsy Rose Lee in ‘Gypsy’ at the Paper Mill Playhouse in New Jersey. Her voice could also be heard as the narrative in ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ and in the national production of ‘Cinderella’, Debbie landed the title role.

Following her 2006 appearance on ‘Skating with Celebrities’ she has had a resurgence of popularity in niche markets and she now tours and has become a popular attraction at Gay Pride concerts. Her 2006 single, "Say Goodbye", featured dance-pop artist Jordan Knight and in May 2007, the world premiere of "Electric Youth: The Musical" was unveiled at The Starlight Theatre in Orlando, Florida. Deborah is currently working on new pop music. Deborah said in a recent May 2007 interview for BBC Devon Radio that there was talk with a label about either reissuing the greatest hits and putting a few new tracks on it or new album.

She is currently working with Jimmy Van Patten on a musical called ‘The Flunky’.Debbie’s career has kept her so busy over the years that she has never found time to marry and consequently doesn’t have any children.
