Demi Moore Biography Demi Moore is an actress, model, producer, and songwriter who, at the peak of her career, was the highest paid female star in Hollywood. She is best remembered for her role in the love story Ghost. Demetria Gene Guynes was born on November 11th, 1962, in Roswell, New Mexico. Her gambler father left her mother before she was born, and she took the surname of her stepfather, Danny Guynes, who moved the family around continually as he took newspaper advertising sales jobs, eventually committing suicide when Moore was eighteen. He and her mother were alcoholics who often fought, making her childhood extremely difficult. It was even more difficult because she was cross-eyed and had to wear an eye patch until her condition was eventually corrected by surgery. Moore had a younger brother, Morgan, who went on to become a special effects technician after the family settled in Los Angeles.
At sixteen, Moore started dating rock drummer Freddie Moore who played with Bill Haley and the Comets. After a while the couple decided to marry, changing her last name to what she would later be recognized as. His next door neighbor, actress Nastassja Kinski, befriended her and persuaded her to drop out of school to develop her abilities as an actress and model. She found work as a pin-up girl and appeared on the catwalks of Europe. Moore's first film role came in Choices with Val Avery and George Barrows in 1981, but it was the following year's Parasite with Robert Glaudini and Luca Bercovici that attracted a cult following. However, it took the television series General Hospital to introduce her to a general audience. This led to further film roles, which established her as part of the Brat Pack along with Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Mare Winningham, Anthony Michael Hall, Andrew McCarthy, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy. The group enjoyed unprecedented success during the 80s boom in films aimed at teen audiences.
However, for the young Moore, the pressure was too much, and she became a cocaine addict. Ironically, it wasn't until she played one in St. Elmo's Fire, when director Joel Schumacher intervened, that she realized the extent of her problem and cleaned up her life. Since then she has been known for being health conscious, a vegetarian, and a fitness fanatic. Moore's hard work in turning her life around paid off. In 1990 she appeared opposite Patrick Swayze in the massively popular Ghost. This led to several other major roles in films including Adrian Lyne's Indecent Proposal with Robert Redford and Woody Harrelson; Disclosure with Michael Douglas and Donald Sutherland; The Scarlet Letter with Gary Oldman and Robert Duvall; and A Few Good Men with Jack Nicholson and Tom Cruise. As such, she was the first actress to break the ten million dollar salary barrier. Her career later took a downturn and Moore took a break to concentrate on her family. The actress made a comeback when in 2003 she appeared alongside Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, and followed it up with several major movies. Moore's personal life has also made headlines. After divorcing Freddie Moore in 1984, she became engaged to Emilio Estevez, but the couple broke up after two years. Demi then married Bruce Willis, with whom she had three daughters named Rumer Glenn, Scout LaRue and Tallulah Belle. Moore famously appeared nude on the cover of Vanity Fair when she was seven months pregnant with Scout (later, she would re-appear there wearing only body paint). She and Willis divorced in 2000 amid massive press speculation. In 2005 Moore married actor Ashton Kutcher, sixteen years her junior. She now lives in Hailey, Idaho, where she is a devotee of the Kabbalah. YUDDY |
