Dermot MulroneyActor Dermot Mulroney was born on October 31, 1963, in Alexandria, Virginia. Dermot attended Alexandria’s T.C. Williams High School, the same school featured in the 2000 Jerry Bruckheimer film, Remember the Titans . Growing up, Dermot enjoyed playing cello in school and city youth orchestras, as well as acting in children's community theater. After high school, Dermot went on to attend Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. In 1985, Mulroney graduated from the University’s School of Speech. Tragically, his university girlfriend died shortly before graduation.
Dermot began his acting career starring in various made-for-TV movies, such as Sin of Innocence in 1986 and Daddy in 1987. In 1988, he made his first feature film debut alongside Bratpacker brothers, Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen in Young Guns. Despite the success of the film and its star-studded cast, Young Guns did not launch Mulroney into the spotlight as expected, and he continued to act in low-profile movies.
In 1990, Dermot starred in the film Longtime Companion, in which he played an AIDS victim and one of the virus’s first casualties. He went on to star in films covering a diverse range of genres, including John Hughes’ comedy Career Opportunities in 1991, alongside his brother, Kieran Mulroney; Bad Girls in 1994; Copy Cat in 1995; and How to Make an American Quilt in 1995, starring Winona Ryder. Mulroney also teamed up with director Tom DiCillo to star in and associate produce 1995's Living in Oblivion and 1996's Box of Moonlight.
In 1997, Dermot gained recognition playing Julia Roberts’ best friend in My Best Friend's Wedding, also starring Cameron Diaz and Rupert Everett. In 2005, Dermot starred in another romantic comedy called The Family Stone, featuring a star-studded cast which included Rachel McAdams, Diane Keaton, Claire Danes, Craig T Nelson, Luke Wilson, and Sarah Jessica Parker. On the small-screen, Mulroney has also played the role of Jennifer Aniston’s love interest on the popular television series Friends.
In addition to acting, Dermot is also an avid cello player. He has played cello on Melissa Etheridge's track titled "Place Your Hand "from her 1992 album Never Enough. He also played double bass and cello on the debut album for Rain and Summer Phoenix's band, Papercranes. In addition to the aforementioned, Mulroney contributed his string skills to the score of 2006's Mission: Impossible III.
In 1990, Dermot married actress and Tom DiCillo’s muse, Catherine Keener. The couple parted ways in 2005, and have one son together named Clyde. YUDDY |
