Diane Lane was raised by her father, Burt Lane, in New York City, when, not long after being born her parents divorced. She was born on January 22^nd 1965 into a semi-acting family with her father being an acting coach and her mother being the Hugh Hefner’s Playboy centerfold model, Colleen Farrington. Lane began professionally acting at the age of six when she attended La Mama Experimental Theatre in New York. By the age of thirteen she was making her film debut in A Little Romance opposite Sir Laurence Olivier.

Her success continued into her teens when she landed roles in The Outsiders with a young Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, Tom Cruise and Emilio Estevez. This success was followed by the movie Rumble Fish which included much of the same cast as The Outsiders, Dillon, Lane and the leading man, Mickey Rourke. With her association with the likes of Rob Lowe and Matt Dillon she was labeled as a member of the ‘Brat Pack’. 

During the early 1980’s Diane dated rock star Jon Bon Jovi and in 1988 she married actor Christopher Lambert. Together they had one daughter, Eleanor, born in 1993. Just one year later the couple divorced.

Lane’s next two ventures into the movie world brought her roles in The Cotton Club and Streets of Fire in 1984 with Willem Dafoe, but neither film brought her the box office success that her previous two movies had brought and for five years her acting career somewhat stagnated. 

It was 1989 that saw Lane making a comeback and achieving an Emmy Award nomination for her role in A Walk on the Moon when she starred opposite Viggo Mortensen, Anna Paquin and Liv Schreiber, in which Diane portrayed the role of a Jewish housewife embarking on an affair in an effort to recapture her lost youth.

Unfaithful once again cast Lane in the role of a cheating wife alongside her unsuspecting screen husband Richard Gere in the 2002 movie that gave her an Academy Award nomination as Best Actress. The part of Paul, her lover, was originally offered to Brad Pitt and Ryan Phillippe but was eventually given to Oliver Martinez in the part that demanded him faking a French accent. 

In 2003 Diane scooped the role of Frances Mayes in Under the Tuscan Sun which also starred Sandra Oh and Kate Walsh. This time the roles were reversed for Lane, when she discovered that her husband had been cheating on her.

December 2004 was the year that Diane took the plunge and remarried. This time to an actor three years her junior, Josh Brolin, the son of James Brolin who is currently married to Barbra Streisand. Although now married, Lane’s acting career didn’t take a back seat when in 2004 she was the leading lady in the romantic comedy Must Love Dogs where her love interest was played by John Cusack, her father was played by Christopher Plummer and her friends included Stockard Channing and Elizabeth Perkins.

Lane’s career continued into 2007 in Killshot where she found herself starring once again opposite an old ‘Brat Pack’ friend, Mickey Rourke in a plot that had Rourke and Lane entering into a witness protection program after being on the run from two hitmen. 

The thriller, Untraceable, set in Portland, Oregan, in 2008, saw Lane in a plot that has a serial killer taunting the FBI through his website. Her co-stars in the movie were Billy Burke and Colin Hanks.

Having appeared with Richard Gere in 2002 where she played the cheating wife in Unfaithful, it must have been easy reuniting with Gere once again in 2008 for the movie Nights in Rodanthe, where, this time she had been cheated on by her husband played by Christopher Meloni and found love in the arms of Gere.
