American actor Dylan Walsh’s claim to fame is his role as Dr. Sean McNamara in the FX television series Nip/Tuck. He also once dated Julia Roberts.

Walsh was born Charles Hunter Walsh on November 17, 1963, in Los Angeles, California. Because his parents both worked for the Foreign Service, Walsh had already lived in East Africa, India, and Indonesia before he was ten years old.

During high school Walsh found his acting passion, first wowing audiences with his portrayal of Atticus Finch in the high school stage production of To Kill a Mockingbird.

But Walsh didn’t study acting in university. Instead he graduated with a degree in English from the University of Virginia in 1986.

After university he moved to New York to pursue a professional acting career. His first role was in the made-for-television movie Soldier Boys in 1987. Walsh then landed the part of Jory Talbot in the 1989 comedy Loverboy and followed that up with a regular role on the television series Kate & Allie. He played Ben for five episodes from 1987 to 1989.

Up until 1989 Walsh was credited in all his acting roles by his birth name. In 1989 he started using the name Dylan Walsh professionally.

Walsh continued to work in television and films appearing in movies like Betsy’s Wedding in 1990 as Jake Lovell; Congo in 1995 as Dr. Peter Elliot; and We Were Soldiers in 2002 as Captain Robert Edwards.

He has also made appearances in several televisions shows including Brooklyn South as Officer Jimmy Doyle; Everwood as Carl Feeny; The Twilight Zone as Adam; and The Outer Limits as Sergeant Eldritch.

In 2003 Walsh landed his role as Dr. Sean McNamara on Nip/Tuck. The series creator, Ryan Murphy, offered him the role when he saw him in a coffee shop because he recognized Walsh from other acting roles he had played.

In 2006 Walsh played Morgan, the buttoned-down boyfriend of Sandra Bullock’s haunted character, Kate Forster, in the fantasy-romantic drama The Lakehouse. Besides Sandra Bullock, the movie also starred Keanu Reeves. That same year, he was listed as one of People magazine’s Sexiest Men Alive.

Walsh was married to actress Melora Walters in 1996 until their divorce on July 29, 2003. They have two children together, Joanna Marie and Thomas Charles. On October 10, 2004, he married actress Joanna Going. The two have a daughter named Stella Haven Walsh who was born on November 22, 2003.

He writes about forty e-mails a day, likes to eat caramel ice cream and junk food, and collects Rolex watches.
