Elizabeth MitchellThis professionally-trained blonde beauty spent most of her early years in Dallas, Texas. After years of small roles in film and on several television series, the thirty-something Mitchell recently landed a regular role on one of ABC’s biggest hits. With a new son and loving husband, the future looks bright for this once-struggling actress.
Elizabeth Mitchell was born on March 27, 1970, in Los Angeles, California. After relocating to Dallas at a young age, Mitchell honed her acting skills at the Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in her hometown. Following graduation, she furthered her acting studies by earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting from Stephens College and also spent some time at the British American Drama Academy. Her training alone, however, wasn’t enough to instantly catapult her to the rank of movie star, and she spent more than half a decade on stage, appearing in productions of As You Like It, Measure for Measure, and Chicago, among others.
Like many stage actors, Elizabeth longed to reach a wider audience through television and film, and in 1994 she landed her first television role on the ABC soap opera Loving. Her stint as Dinah-Lee Mayberry Alden lasted only one year, and the twenty-something Mitchell found herself once again searching for work.
In 1998, Mitchell appeared opposite Angelina Jolie in the television movie Gia, and her performance was praised by audiences and critics alike. After Gia, her breakthrough film, Mitchell went from struggling to find roles, to working steadily in the ultra-competitive acting realm. Her appearances include those in Frequency, the sci-fi thriller also starring Dennis Quaid, and the 2000 release Nurse Betty, starring movie icons Renee Zellweger and Morgan Freeman. Additional appearances include a one-year recurring role on NBC’s ER, as well as co-starring roles in The Santa Clause 2 and The Santa Clause 3. Both films were led by Tim Allen, and the latter also boasted Alan Arkin and Martin Short among its credited cast.
Her current role is that of Juliet on the ABC drama Lost. The Emmy Award winning series follows the lives of plane crash survivors and boasts a huge cast of characters including Evangeline Lilly, making it one of the most expensive productions currently airing. Mitchell was one of three new characters introduced in season three of the serial drama.
Before meeting her current love interest, Mitchell was involved with actor David Lee Smith, the American who has worked on the television series Providence, As the World Turns, and One Life to Live, among others. In June of 2004, Elizabeth married the still-struggling actor Chris Soldevilla, who has made small appearances on 7th Heaven and Coyote Ugly. In 2005, the couple had Chistopher Jr., their first and, as of yet, only child. YUDDY |
