Ellen Pompeo As the star of one of the most successful medical dramas on television, the casual yet dominating presence of Ellen Pompeo on screen has fans of Gray’s Anatomy begging for more. The show, playing off, but not related to Spalding Gray’s anatomical tale Gray’s Anatomy, debuted midseason in 2005. However, Pompeo has enjoyed many screen performances alongside some of Hollywood’s leading men long before she assumed the role of Dr. Meredith Grey.
Ellen Pompeo was born November 10, 1969, in Boston. She didn’t pursue acting until she was an adult, when she moved to New York in her mid-twenties, working as a bartender, and was approached by a talent agent. She began appearing in commercials and pursued acting in earnest, moving to Los Angeles.
Pompeo landed small television roles beginning in the late 1990s, with appearances on Law & Order, Strong Medicine, and Friends. Pompeo’s big screen debut was in Moonlight Mile in 2002, and her first major breakthrough as an actress came with a role in Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can also in 2002, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, and Martin Sheen. Pompeo landed an even bigger role in the 2003 comedy, Old School, starring Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell, and Vince Vaughn.
With the lead role in ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo’s career has soared. The medical drama series about a group of first-year surgical interns debuted in March of 2005 and became the #1 show on ABC when it entered its third season. Ellen Pompeo, along with Patrick Dempsey, James Pickens, Jr., T R Knight, Katherine Heigl, Sandra Oh, Isaiah Washington, Justin Chambers, Kate Walsh, and the rest of the cast have created small-screen chemistry that leaves viewers buzzing around the office water coolers in anticipation of the next week’s episode.
Ellen Pompeo has five older siblings, and their mother died when Ellen was only four. She currently lives in Los Angeles, California. Though no one can predict when Grey’s Anatomy might die on the table, it’s sure to be a long while before the series needs any life support with Pompeo and cast heading operations. YUDDY |
