Emma Bunton With her baby doll outfits, her innocent look, her hair in bunches and of course being the youngest member of The Spice Girls, it was inevitable that Emma Bunton would be named ‘Baby Spice’ during the group’s years at the top. Emma Bunton was born on January 21st 1976 in Finchley, and grew up in Barnet, a fairly up market area of London. Neither of her parents were in the music business, her mother was a karate teacher and her father was a milkman but that didn’t stop Emma dreaming of a life in the spotlight. Her parents, Pauline and Trevor divorced when she was just eleven years old and both Emma and her younger brother Paul remained with their mother. Emma attended St Theresa’s Roman Catholic Primary School and later she enrolled in the Sylvia Young Theatre School in Westminster, Central London. While at the school Emma made a ‘bit’ appearance in the British television series, ‘The Bill’ which revolves around the happenings of an imaginary London Police Station. Later she auditioned for the part of ‘Bianca’ in the British soap opera, ‘East enders’ but the role went to another aspiring English actress, Patsy palmer. Emma’s musical career took off in 1994 when she attended the audition which she had seen advertised in a local newspaper. Although she was not the judges first choice, when an original member of the group left and Emma was chosen as her replacement.
Together with, Victoria Adams, (later to become Mrs Victoria Beckham),Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown and Geri Halliwell, she would become a part of the 1990’s biggest musical phenomenon. Together they sold thirty-five million albums, “Spice’, ‘Spiceworld’ and ‘Forever.’ After their first number one hit ‘Wannabe’ the group went on to have a total of nine number one hits in the UK. After the group parted in 2000 Emma signed up with Richard Branson’s record label, Virgin, and went on to pursue a solo career and released her first album, ‘A Girl Like Me’ from which came her number one hit, ‘What Took You so Long.’ However, with the poor sales of her single ‘We’re Not Going to Sleep Tonight’ she parted company with Virgin. Emma decided to drop the ‘Bunton’ from her name and signed with The Spice Girls’ manager, Simon Fuller and Polydor Records. At this time Emma tried to break into the American market with her single ‘Free Me’ but despite numerous TV appearances on ‘The View’ with Barbara Walters, The Tony Danza Show and Live with Regis and Kelly’ where she was interviewed by Kelly Ripa and Regis Philbin, her success in America remained illusive.
Over the next few years Emma made several TV guest appearances in the UK, in Australian soaps and in commercials, but it was in 2007 that she won the female role in ‘The Pink Panther 2’ which is to be filmed in 2008. Originally the part was earmarked for Beyonce Knowles. In Emma’s private life she has been romantically linked to Justin Timberlake and Lee Brennan. Although it is Emma’s longtime boyfriend of eight years, former member of boyband ‘Damage’, Jade Jones, with who she has decided to settle down. With the birth of her first baby in in summer 2007, Emma and Jade sealed their relationship. In 2007 Emma runited with her former Spice Girl friends to embark on a world tour which saw them taking in venues such as Vancouver, Toronto, London and New York. Following the conclusion of the tour the girls announced that ist would be the last time they would be performing together.
